Homemade dishcloths?

I have noticed that my homemade knitted and crocheted dishclothes carry a smell much more than a store boughten one. When washing with normal detergent the smell does not seem to go away?

What could I wash them in to relieve the smell?

  1. Add a handful of baking soda to the wash cycle and a cup of vinegar in the rinse. Line dry them in the sunshine, that should take care of odors.

In the future, rinse your dishrags after use with cold water. This will keep them from getting smelly in the first place. Then allow them to dry, don't let them sit in a wad growing bacteria (that's what stinks).

  2. I let mine sit in vinegar for a half hour before I wash them.  Smell, I can live with...  germs, I cannot.  Plus, once you "pickle" them, lol, washing them should work to make them smell lovely.

  3. Place in bowl of hot water and a slice of lemon.

Microwave on full heat 2 minutes.

No bugs live & microwave is easier to clean.

Place in bleach solution to whiten up again.

    Regards.
