Homemade drip water container for plants

i am a terrible gardener but i do love to have plants in front of my house.

somehow i always put to much or less water. someone suggested to use an empty gallon of milk or juice and made a homemade water container of water out of it. but i do not have any idea of how it was explain to me. Does anyone know how to? and how it did go?

  1. I think what they mean is to fill the bottle with water and then turn it upside down (quickly as to not lose the water) and putting it into the soil beside the plant.  The water will leach slowly into the ground (roots) where the plant needs it the most.

  2. The first answerer is correct, just fill the bottle and stick it into the pot.  You might consider using a wine or other nicer bottle, as they are a little more attractive than an milk jug or soda bottle.

    Another thing to consider is a drip system.  There are kits that run about $25 that include the hose, several nozzles, and the connector to a faucet (available from Home Depot or Lowes).  It takes less than an hour to install, no tools or experience required.  We turn it on ours for a few minutes every couple of days and our plants have done much better than when we manually watered.  And, if you are really lazy and are willing to spend more, you can also buy a timer that turns it on automatically.
