Homemade lemon ice help...?

I have a recipe for lemon ice that I have made for years and it takes a lot of time due to freezing, mixing, re-freezing, etc. Has anyone made a lemon (or Italian) ice in an electric ice cream maker and how were the results? Did the consistency hold up or was it rather slushy? Thanks in advance.
