  1. Apart from any other considerations, you'd use so little of it for onion rings that it would make no difference anyway.

  2. yep... dry the onions .just before you want to cook em. dip in milk then in the seasoned flower,,,then the rest is in the eating...

  3. Yes, you can use self-rising bread flour as long as you don't let them sit around breaded. You can allow the mix to sit for a bit; this will cause the dough to rise and will give you a slightly fluffier coating on each onion ring.

Preheat the deep fryer or use a deep pot with three inches of oil inside. If you have a fine screen, use it on top of the pot when cooking. Use equal parts beer and flour, mix together, dip the precut onion rings and drop them in the heated oil. When the lower side is browned to your liking, flip once only with a bamboo chopstick, After the second side is cooked through, remove and drain on several layers of paper toweling. Lightly salt and you're ready to dig in!

  4. yes but finished product will be very greasy as the batter will puff up more than plain flour(like a sponge)

  5. yes in batters... or use the self-rising flour (add seasonings, of course) as a dredge.

self-rising flour is similar to all-purpose flour, except the addition of baking powder and maybe salt.
