Homemade remedies to fly trouble?

Well my parents have been getting pretty pissed at flies in the doorway outside my house, and they're starting to blame the dogs and i end up bathing them every other day and it's getting annoying. I pick up their p**p almost every day so it cant be that. Is there anything i can do to repel the flies from my house? Anything that i can find around the house without going to a store and buying a fly trap because they just look tacky.

Well this is really tacky but it works.  Hang water filled plastic bag in the doorway & they won't come in. don't know why but it works.
