I am in a Early Childhood Education program and for my class i need to make a preschooler toy which will fit into a shoe box. The toy has to be developmentally appropriate for a 3-5 year old child and also need to be self directed when i give it to the child i cannot explain what they need to do i just give it to them and they need to figure it out.

If you have any ideas on what I could do that would be great

thanks for your help....

  1. what about some koolaid plato kids love and its ok to eat it's not poisons and kids love to smoosh and moosh things here's the recipe.

    Kool-Aid® Play Dough

    1 cup flour

    1 tablespoon vegetable oil

    1 package unsweetened Kool-Aid

    1/4 cup salt

    2 tablespoons cream of tartar

    1 cup water

Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar and Kool-Aid® in a medium pot. Add water and oil. Stir over medium heat 3 to 5 minutes. When mixture forms a ball in pot, remove. Knead until smooth. Put in a plastic bag and refrigerate

  2. You could make a doll!

  3. How about a simple puzzle?  Take a somewhat large picture of an object (laminate it so it will last) and cut it into 3's or 4's.  The child would quickly figure out how to put  it together easily without direction. The picture could be a person, a tree, a toy.  Also, you could put two different puzzles( very different pictures) in the box and they would have to decipher which piece goes where.  It's a challenge that would be attainable by a 3-5 year old.

  4. you could make musical shakers.. using small containers or platic bottles.. fill with coloured rice or sand.

juts make sure that the lids are taped on securely so the child cannot open them
