I already know i can go to the local community college, where i want to obtain my Associates in English & Science, roughly 2 years there. But then i want to transfer to a little university to take a Vet tech program, which is another 2 years. The community college & university are in with each other so im sure id be able to go there. What do you think?

  1. I was home educated all the way from kindergarten to 12th grade, did not do correspondence school and had absolutely no problem getting accepted at a major University. Just so long as you have taken the SAT and preferably some other outside tests (like the ITBS and TAP), you should be able to get into whatever college you like. Princeton actually looks for home schoolers!

  2. That sounds wonderful!  You have a passion and a plan....an unbeatable duo!

    Good luck!

  3. Sounds like you've got it all figured out.

  4. Sounds like a great plan. Try and take Community College while still in high school. In CA, High Schoolers get free tuition at Community Colleges. It will save you some money.

    Best of Luck!

  5. I think you've made a good plan for yourself. There's no reason homeschoolers can't do what you suggested. You could even just go streight to university if you wanted to. Here are some suggestions that might help you. Some things that a lot of my friends who are homeschooled did.

First, see if the community college offers a duel enrollment program for highschoolers. If it does and you think you can handle it, ENROLL. You'll be able to work towards your associates degree and graduation at the same time, and it will be great for them to see that you've already taken steps to further your education when you apply there as a full time student. I know many homeschoolers who started duel enrolling in the tenth or eleventh grade, and when they finished twelfth grade and graduated highschool they ALSO recieved their associated degrees. Definitely something worth trying.

You could also study for and take the AP english exams to get some college English credits out of the way ahead of time. Take any AP exams you like if you think you can do it. It will help you in the long run.

Volunteer at your local animal shelter, pet shop, animal hospital, wildlife refuge, or anywhere else that seems to relate to your interests and career choice. This way you'll get some first hand experience and be able to decide for sure if it's something you want to try for.
