My friend is homeschooled. I want her to take the ACT for the oppurtunity to get into a university straight out of high school. She is convinced that it will cost her $1500 and that she can't afford that. Is this true? Is it not the Standard $50 if you do not attend a public school?

In my school and i belive Michigan, juniors and seniors are paid to take the ACT twice, once with the MME and once on their own. It is paid for.

  1. The ACT has a cost, but it is no where close to $1,500. It has been a while, but if I recall correctly the price was more to the tune of $75.

  2. As far as I know it's $44 including the written.

You just have to go to a place where they perform it.

    You may have to pre-register.

As far as I know anyone can take it anytime it is avaiable.

Call ACT at 319-337-1270, materials will mailed for free

  3. I'm in Ohio and i attend a charter school that is online. The cost to register for the ACT at a local high school was only $43 i believe, and i took the writing portion as well, which is extra.

  4. She received some incorrect information.  She should be able to register to take it just like any other student and at the same cost.

My son will be allowed to take the ACT in 6th grade through a talent search, and even with that, we'll only pay around $60.  He's HS'ed, too.

Are you sure she's not including the cost of some "fancy" (but not needed, IMO) test *preparation*???

I've *never* heard of students being *paid* to take the ACT or SAT.  That is news to me!

Here is the ACT website for more information:

    http://www.actstudent.org/

...and the page with registration fees:

  5. My son took the ACT in 7th through one of the four regional talent search programs.  Taking the ACT did not cost much.

He will be taking it again this year.  One of the nice things about the ACT is that you choose which score to report to a college.

I provide a link below to all the regional talent search programs.

I've never heard of a student getting paid to take the ACT.

You should also look into taking the PSAT in both the 10th and 11th grades.  The 10th is pure practice.  The 11th grade testing will possibly qualify the student for National Merit Scholarships.
