Homeschool and working part time?

I wanted to know if any moms out there home school and work part time? I am currently a single mom who works from home. My daughter is a year old but I have decided that when she is school age to homeschool. I am a single mom and I would like to homeschool her and work part time outside of my home. I feel that we both need a little outside interaction but I don't want her in mainstream school (especially not here in CA) and I just wanted to know if there are any moms out there who do it and what your schedule is like and how well it works for you. Thanks!

  1. I do it! I home school my two oldest and am a full time mom to all three and I work part time. I have a part time job as an insurance inspector. I go out once a week to one of the territories I work and hit all the addresses in that area and the next week I'll be some where else. Then I go home and start typing out the reports the next day as soon as school is done with. For the days I'm out either my husband has the day off or I get a mom (his or mine) to babysit and they do school with the kids instead. My typical schedule is to go out on Thursday or Friday and be at the first address for 9:00 Am and just work until I get them done (usually about 8-10 a day).

If you are a person good at juggling things then it might work for you. Just make sure your priorities are straight and that your child is getting all that she deserves from you while you work on top of school. It can get overwhelming but it's possible!

  2. my mom works part time and homeschools my younger sisters. they're old enough to stay home alone when she goes out. she just makes sure they're all set up, and checks on them when she returns. they're both involved in extra curriculars to get "socialized". it works.

  3. I'm not a single mom, but I do know some who have pulled it off. They have usually found childcare for when they work (sometimes with another homeschooling family). It can definitely work if you want it to.

  4. my mom homeschools me (I'm 15)

she has a job from home setting appointments for insurance agents that go out of town. (she's originally a hair dresser)

after i had to leave my private school i didn't want to go to a public (it was terrible)

anyway i just go to church to interact with ppl.

i'm in theatre, voice lessons, swim lessons, and other fun things.

join mommy daughter clubs, and have her do different activites such as: cheer, gymnastics, swim, theatre, dance...stuff like that.

    best of luck!

  5. nope i finished my phd long time ago

also homeschooling wont work because your children are so used to you so they wont pay attention a lot

  6. I agree with your opinion of queen of all games answer. I think it is possible, it will make things harder ofcourse. Your daughter will have to be taught to be an independent learner. Alot of homeschoolers are that way anyway. I taught myself all through highschool. I think it makes you better prepared for the real world that way. Its good for the child to learn to figure things out of there own. Ofcourse in the younger years it will take more effort becuase you will have to teach your daughter to learn to read and write. Check out my new website for more information on homeschooling. I plan on adding alot more information over the next couple months, so add it to favorites and check back often.

  7. I am a single mom homeschooling a 7yr old and I do work part time outside of the home. I usually work 20 hrs a week usually on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That is perfect for me, just enough extra money and some time out of the house with grown ups. My son gets outside interaction by playing soccer, art class and homeschool get togethers. It all works really well. I am very happy with my decision. Best of luck.

  8. I work two 12 hour shifts on weekends a a nursing assistant and I homeschool my daughter, who is severely autistic. She is mostly nonverbal and in addition I must take her to her different therapies three times a week. We fit our schooling around her therapy appointments and we also do school in the evenings at home. She requires constant one on one attention when we do work together.as she is not yet capable of independent study. It works very well for us. I am also married with older kids, but my husband is disabled and cannot be of much help.

  9. i know 3 that it has worked out fine for

  10. it's possible.  Nothing's new under the sun.

  11. I homeschooled but didn't work outside the home.  I know of people who did but it was pretty tough.  DON'T BE DISCOURAGED or distracted from your purpose.  Give it all you've got, its an excellent choice!!!  Best Wishes

  12. I have continued to homeschool over the last 9 years, usually working part-time from home (at least), but even going stretches working months at a time full time out of the home.

Since you have a lot of freedom with homeschooling, it can be arranged-- especially if you do work from home. Homeschooling isn't a lot like school; you don't have to be at the table all day w/your child telling them what to do. A lot of

    their work will be independant.

Here is an article I wrote on the topic, hopefully you'll find it helpful:

  13. I know alot of people who homeschool and it seems to work for them.  I don't homeschool but I do have people that purchase books from me because it helps with their homeschooling.  I am a consultant with Usborne Books.  This would also be a great side job for you also where you could get your "homeschooling" books for free or at a great discount.  So if you have time checkout my website.

  14. I run a fulltime in home daycare while homeschooling a 4th and 7th grader. I have been homeschooling for 3 years. For the first 2 years I worked outside the home and we would homeschool around my work schedule. We did evenings, midnights, mornings, weekends, etc etc etc.

It CAN be done if you set your mind to it!

  15. I work very part time and home school my son. Our situation is a bit unique because I only work a few hours a day, usually one or 2. I also work for my mom so I bring my kids with me. This is a hard situation to find but I love it. I love homeschooling and it's great that I can still make a little money to help support us. There's no way we could live off of what I make though. If you can pull it off, more power to you. Sometimes we get school done in the evening if work interferes. It just depends on how you can swing it. Good luck!
