I'm considering on taking Florida Virtual School for my freshman year. I'm also going to be doing homeschooling with my parent as well, to make sure I get all the information & credits, etc., that I need.

But anyways, I was wondering, for those who are homeschooled, have been homeschooled, or homeschool their own children: Do you like it? Would you prefer it over traditional homeschooling? & What do you think of virtual schooling?

I just want to know your opinion on the matter,

but please no "Well, you should go to highschool You'll be missing out on a lot." Just trust me when I say, I won't. lol

So yeah, if you could please give me your opinion, that would be great:]]

  1. You may like it for a little bit, because you may not have to get up early in the morning, and you may have more time to yourself rather than doing school work. In the end though, you'll regret it.

You think you won't be missing out on a lot, but you will be.

You're not going to be going to school dances, not going to have time to talk to your friends as much, and you're going to be sitting home all day very bored.

FVS is a joke, I've done some classes on there and the teachers are idiots. It's too easy, and a waste of time. You might as well drop out if you're going to just do the classes online, because you're not going to be learning much of anything.

Also if your internet goes out, you're going to be screwed. It happened to my sister a few times, and she didn't get the chance to send in her paper to the teacher and the teacher gave her an F, because the internet went out.

Also if you plan on going to college or anything it's not going to look very good on your resume to a college. You're taking classes online, this means you're not going to be very social or outgoing and you won't be participating in school functions, which is what colleges like to see in a person. Active people in their schools mean active people in their colleges.

If you don't plan to go to college, and you don't have very many friends/don't want any, then you might be fine, but otherwise you're going to be out of luck in the end.

  2. I always say that there are pluses and minuses to everything. So, yeah there's some downsides to homeschooling, but they're so small compared to the pluses.

I love homeschooling. The best thing is the freedom I have.

I've been in an online school for two years, and it's sliglhtly challengeing because it takes a lot of discipline. Much more discipline than I was used to in public school.

Good luck with your upcoming year! :)

  3. I am teaching a student through a virtual school in georgia. Overall it has been a good experience. The biggest problems we had was running out of material because she works faster than most students.

As the adult in the situation, I have to be very careful about surpervision as it would be easy for her to cheat or exagerate about how much time she is taking to complete assignments since there is a required number of hours that she must work during the year.

Other than that, we have more freedom to do things both outside of school and as a supplement to whatever she is learning. Her mother and I are also more aware of what she is learning and what areas she needs to work on before moving on to the next level of her education.

I recommend it if you are self-motivated and focused. If not, it could be a daily struggle.

  4. I Don't do virtual school but have been home schooled my whole life and it's not as bad as it may seem I've gone to all the dances homecoming, formal,Prom you can go on a buddy pass w/one of your friends who goes to a "Real" school, I Don't know how your parents will be but I have stuff that I do from 6am-2pm and then I have h/w assignments so I really didn't miss out on that part and I also have tests. So what I'm saying is that it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

P.S. This is my senior year..I'm going to Prom (Again I went last year) and we have a "Real" graduation.

  5. I take Algebra online currently and it's great. You can go at your pace. You learn just as much so don't worry about that. Plus if you have questions you can just email your teacher. I also like how taking online classes let you have a more casual relationship with your instructor. If Florida Virtual Schools is anything like novelstars.com you love it . You can skip around through your nine weeks and lessons. Another thing that's awesome you only have 1 lesson per chapter! So you can go through it really fast. And if I were you, I'd consider finishing up all your credits early and going to college at 17 or taking a year off to go visit places.

  6. We don't use online school and my daughter is only 11, so our situation is different from yours. But, yes, we love it!
