  1. If there is no public school available, or the child's special needs make public school a disadvantage, then home schooling is necessary.

A child needs to learn to socialize and to deal with problem people.  Part of humanity is our need to mix and mingle.  Public school is best for most children.

Some parents, for their own convenience, will enroll their children in home school programs to fudge their grades a little, or get some kind of stipend or computer allowance, etc., but this is a great disservice to the children, as the children are not gaining that valuable experience of dealing with many kinds of personalities and making friends.

  2. In my opinion, and experience, Homeschooling is better.  However, every family must choose for themselves what works best for their situation.  In our situation, educating our children at home is something I had wanted to do from the beginning.

It sad for me to think that you found homeschooling boring.  I try to make things as interesting as possible for my children & take great pains to ensure that they are able to enjoy time each week interacting with other children of all ages.

However, I also expect my children to tackle each day with a positive attitude & as much enthusiasm as possible.  I hold myself to that same standard, and I feel that simple step is immensely helpful in keeping our family happy in our choice.

It's my desire for my children to develop a love of learning, but not every subject is going to be exciting for every child.  Again, a good attitude toward the work of learning (from both the adult and child) makes the difference between a boring chore and a positive experience.

I believe that the primary goal of any educational system is to instill knowledge in our children - not to provide as much social time as possible.  I think that, in general, society places far too much weight on children spending hours daily with other children.  It is not essential to their social development.

So, there you have my perspective on why I believe homeschooling is superior to public schooling.  For us.

  3. It depends on the person and the situation. If you are doing more than socializing while in school - like actually learning something which is the main point of education - and you prefer it, I guess public school is best for you. I think homeschooling is better for many people in that it is more fun, provides more social and learning opportunities and offers a more well-rounded education. However, it doesn't suit everyone.

  4. Depends on the student and program.  The typical homeschooler out performs the typical public schooler by 1-3 grade levels.

And you are in school to get an education not to socialize, unless your idea of education is trailer park livings with 4 kids and a job at the local bottling plant.

  5. Homeschooling doesn't actually isolate kids if done properly. Almost every state and city has a group for home schoolers, often even at the public library. And they all offer regular times and places for socialization in addition to classes, like art or karate, that can held during the day too. If you haven't moved lately, you would still see your same friends from public school after school. The majority of social activities for kids in public school occurs after school or on weekends so i am not sure that anything is missing from homeschooling experience. Some times social interaction of kids can lead to a disaster (or a lifetime of low self-esteem) if completely unsupervised.

  6. Homeschooling is better for our family.  Our son learns at home and he did not learn in public school.   He does get bored at home but he was bored at school.  We keep giving him the advice that it is his responsibility to keep his mind and body active.  One of the great things about home school is that you are not bound to a desk within 4 walls of classroom.  If you get bored at home, you can take breaks.  You can get online and connect.  You can pick up the phone and call home schooled friends.  You can meet friends for activities or just hanging out.

You need to take the time while schooling to learn how to overcome boredom.

  7. If, for some reason, you cannot attend public school for some period of time and have your work at home, I don't think that really qualifies as being homeschooled. I know one kid who's biased against it forever because in the middle of the school year, she got really sick and had to stay home for a couple weeks.

I prefer being unschooled because I get to see my friends more often than if I were in school, and I get to do more stuff with them. I'm done with my work before noon on most days and then I'm free to be an idiot as long as I don't hurt myself or anyone else.

If you're homeschooled and your parents are overprotective and never let you outside, school is probably better for you.

If you go to school and are bored, or are being abused by other students or teachers, being homeschooled is probably better for you.

There are too many different ways and reasons to make an educational choice to narrow it down to a 'better or worse' kind of question.

  8. Have you ever considered that HOW you were homeschooled or the choices you made about homeschooling are what was boring and not homeschooling itself?

I know many homeschooled teens and they do not find homeschooling boring at all. They are too busy doing things--with friends, at jobs, in activities--to be bored. They believe sitting in a desk most of the day would be very boring and are happy to lead their busy lives

  9. im homeschooled and i h8 it choose public if u want an actual social life!!!

    ps, not homeschool!!!

  10. I think Homeschooling is better because you are more disiplined, and your day is about working hard, not waiting until the bell rings so that you can see your friends.

You can be done alot earlier than public school if you set your mind to it, You don't waste time waiting for people to sharpen their pencils,ect......

You can be alot smarter if you get the right curriculum...It is hard, but in the long run it helps!

  11. well, I've only been to public but i like it alot because i love getting to see  my friends and the guys i like.!!

  12. Homeschooling isn't boring to me,I am involved in plenty of extra curicular activities were I can see my friends. But when it comes time to do my school I am very busy and not bothered by other people in a classroom who perhaps are not interested in learning, only socializing.

In my opinion homeschooling is much better.

  13. I depends on the person. I for one had absolutly no will power for the years I was homeschooled. I would go on the internet or watch movies when I should have been working. I would work for half an hour and convince myself that was enough. I needed deadlines, which I was never given. In an institutional setting I can concentrate more easily, even now in the lax environment of college where I have an computer with an internet hook-up in every class and hippies for teachers who could care less if you turned your paper in on time.

Also, I am incredibly shy. The only way I ever made freinds was when I was when I was forced to be with them. A common enemy, so to speak. When assigned to sit next to someone or work on a project with a classmate, I always made close freinds with anyone quickly. When I have to make an effort to be around people I opt to be alone instead. I lost all of my middle school freinds, even my very best one, the one whose house I slept at every weekend, when I started homeschooling.

But my brother was not like that at all. He excelled at homeschooling. And I know a great number of people who have. It's all a matter of character.

  14. Public schooling is much better then home schooling. You get to socialize and meet different people, wich helps you when your older. When being home-schooled you also tend to not have a routine, sleep in in the mornings and do work when you feel like it. You should only really get home-schooled if you dont like your school or your not achieving the levels you should be.

Hope This Comes In Handy x

  15. Your main purpose in attending school is to become an educated person, not to socialize.  I understand socializing at lunch, breaks, etc. which is totally acceptable.

I'm sorry that your homeschooling experience is boring.  Maybe you can ask your parents about going to a homeschool co-op, community activities, classes/lessons, clubs, etc. that you can do in addition to homeschooling.  Along with this, maybe you can visit your public school friends outside of school.  Maybe the aforementioned will alleviate the boredom factor.

    I hope this is helpful..
