Homeschool parents, do your kids ever go back through their records?

If they do, what is their reaction? My daughter looks at her old papers and laughs. It is hard to see the improvement day to day, but when you look back over old work, it becomes obvious. I can tell she feels proud. I’m tickled to see her realize how far she has come.

  1. Ours choose each year what to save, kind of like a keep sake, they have a keep sake box.

At their graduation ceremony pictures of them are shown as part of a slide show, and they can have a table displaying their work, art projects, awards and such making it kind of a walk down memory lane.

  2. I do this with my children at the end of the school year.  We review some of the work they did at the beginning of that year and they are always amazed at what they have learned and how much they have improved.  I think handwriting has been a big one for my third grader.  She is amazed at how she used to write not as neat, then she nearly perfected her manuscript and now writes fluently in cursive.

The pride they have in their own work is something I am so pleased with as a homeschool mom.  It tells me I am doing just fine.  :o)

  3. I brought out my 14 year old's kindergarten work recently.  I did this because she was teasing her younger siblings for their penmanship and drawing skills, so I wanted to show her how she did at their ages.  She doesn't tease them anymore ;-)

With my younger two we keep notebooks for History and science, my 2nd grade son enjoys looking at last year's illustrations of history.  He finds it hilarious that he drew a T.V. in the pyramid with the mummy because we read how the household furnishings were buried with the Pharaohs.

  4. I don't do this, but I wish I did.

Space is so tight where I am, we can't really afford to hold on to things with sentimental value.
