Homeschool parents, have your kids ever expressed interest?

…..in learning about a subject, or in a manner that you had no interest in?

Do you buckle down or pass the buck?

For instance, my daughter is very hands on. She wanted to build the different vehicles we studied in our physics lessons. I’m happy reading the examples. I passed that buck to my husband, who LOVES that sort of thing.

  1. My son is 7 and pretty much daily wants to do a project I have absolutely no interest in.  I had been putting him off some, but I am going to start encouraging and helping him in his interests.

Last week he wanted to earn money so he sold hot chocolate to the neighbors.  My mom took him around door to door because I didn't want to be bothered with it.  He made $10 in less than an hour.

Now I feel ashamed for thinking that way.  He is very inquisitive and imaginitive and I need to encourage, not stifle that.

Homeschooling really is a journey.  I feel like I am learning as much as my children.

  2. We homeschooled for five years. I loved teaching him almost everything, but was thrilled when his grandmother wanted to teach him about balancing a checkbook, investing and interest, taxes, etc. I was happy to pass the buck (no pun intended).

  3. Absolutely, I would have never thought about learning much about Aerospace, or building robots.

I would not call it buckling down, but rather view it as broadening my horizons, and my husbands as well .^_^.

I am struggling, mechanically, and have a son who will take anything apart to see how it works, so often times he teaches me something new.

I am blessed that his father is much better in that arena, so I guess there are times where we pass the buck to each other.

We have a daughter who likes to design things, especially when it comes to home interiors, and there were times where I would have liked it if she could have used someone else's home, lol.....

The younger one is still feeling her way around so to speak, but is taking up photography, full speed ahead.

Home schooling is a wonderful, busy, and exhausting, would not want to miss out learning experience, and a journey for both the parents, and their children alike....

  4. For "Hands-on" kinda stuff, study the "Montessori" Method.

For a great way to teach her other things (like economics, science, ect...)  Look up the "Thomas Jefferson education system"

I use the TJ Ed. at my school, I LOVE it.  It gives me a world-class education that I need.  It's designed to broaden your education to a lot of things (from US history, to economics, to dance and karate, to instrument playing to arts,) It's awesome.
