Question:

Homeschool parents: Would you consider Y!A a form of community service?

This may be an odd question and perhaps I'm just rationalizing / justifying my addiction to Y!A...

But for the parents (and kids) active in the homeschool section of Y!A trying to give quality, experience based advice...

Would you?

Could you?

Consider the activity a community service?

  1. no deff not i kno im not a parent but im am my teacher

  2. Nope...though it would be nice!

I consider it more a guilty pleasure, lol :-)

  3. in a way...yh...i think it is....you are helping put to ease the minds of those that are considering homeschooling and not knowing what to expect. by answering questions and posting it helps! i think its a fact...not rationalization.

  4. No, it's not a community service.

  5. The only community service aspect of it would be an encouragement to other homeschoolers to know that 'we are not alone'. (smile)

The others, outside of the homeschooling community,  will continue with having the blinders up and not seeing past what they have been conditioned into thinking  as 'normal'.

  6. Noy really,I think commnuity sercice is going out and doing something:

    beacn clean up

    city clean up

    etc

  7. Yes, I would consider Y!A a form of community service. Answering questions to help our homeschool community or to clear some of the fog surrounding homeschooling for the wider community outside homeschooling is, yes, a form of community service.

Community service can be in many forms; you can help at a food bank, organize shelves in your local library, answer calls on a help line (isn't that answering questions??), build houses, sit and talk with the elderly... should I go on?  Anything that helps in your own community, whether that be online or in reality, helps that community.

And, sometimes, yes, it is entertaining!

    :o)

p.s. If you are trying to define "community service" for legal reasons, I would bet that your local prosecutor would NOT consider Y!A as a form of community service to meet sentencing requirements (only important in defining "community service" no other implication intended)...  :o)

  8. Well, it can be a form of help to the few who come on and ask honest questions about homeschooling, but I still wouldn't go so far as to call it community service.   More like a way to entertain myself.

BTW- I am addicted to it myself, but I suppose I could be addicted to much worse things!  In fact way back in my B.C. days I was.

  9. Nope. Sorry, chuck!

  10. No

  11. Not even close to community service, but rather a avenue to contribute to breaking down the barriers of ignorance on certain topics, especially home schooling one answer at a time that is. ^_^

The only thing I hope to do with this is to encourage new home school families, and share the knowledge others shared with us, as well as help them find some of the answers to their questions; I know I had plenty when we considered home schooling.
