Homeschool yearbooks?

The topic of creating a yearbook for our homeschool support group has been a topic of discussion recently.

Do any of you have experience doing this? I know some groups do produce an annual yearbook.

Any advice?

Service provider recommendations?

Gotchas?

  1. Our homeschool group does one every year, it's a really nice one - hardcover, beautiful pages, yearbook team, everything.  The high schoolers put it together, the same as a yearbook team would for a school.  I'll dig one of ours out today and see if I can figure out which company they use.  :-)

  2. I went to a small High School where we designed our own year books.  We did it very low tech (back then using computers at all would have been considered very Hight Tech).  The kids literally with scissors, glue, and typewriters, cut and pasted pictures and text for each page, then the whole thing was taken down to a print shop where they copied multiple copies of each page and bound them together.

Nowdays with everyone having computers, it should be easy.  You can get a free program on-line that will enable you to save in PDF or .doc format.  I'll come right back witht he link.

    Here's the link:

Even students could create pages and save them in PDF, which could later be opened in the adobe program by whoever will do the final editing.  Or students could even hand make the pages as my High School did, and you could scan them in to a program.  There are lots of options.

  3. I've heard of Jostens providing yearbooks. I know they provide some things for homeschoolers.

  4. We're thinking of this in our co-op.  We'll be planning our fall classes soon.  We may do a photo-journalism class and have the students make the yearbook.

I just planned on having the kids put together the pages in MS Publisher, and then having Staples print the pages, and then I'll comb bind them w/ my machine to save some money.  We'll also make a digital version available if parents what to print their own.
