  1. Depending on the state you live in you dont have to do anything through your school.

I live in Texas and when i got my drivers license instead of doing drivers ed training i did the option of having my Parents do a course from the Department of Public Safety, a lot of my friends did this also because you can do it on your own time and its all out of school.  The only problem you may have is proving that you are actually in school and not just a truant, in Texas we need to show a TEA form from our school, so I would call your local office where you get your license and just simply ask them, they should be understanding of you

  2. Drivers ed. is no longer taught in public school to the best of my knowledge.

  3. There's really no 'legal' training.  Have your parents pick up the manual from the DMV.  Study it, and have one of them teach you to drive.  Then, take the test.  Easy.

The advantage to enrolling in an actual class is that you will know exactly what to expect, and the instructor will be very familar with the exact rules of the road.  But it's not required.

  4. In my area, the local public schools allow HS'ed students to take driver's ed *for a price*.  It's not cheap, and many have not had good experiences.

You'd be better off going to a private driving school.  It may cost the same as going to a PS to do it (If the PS's in your area allow HS'ers).

For those who say just learn by your parents, they don't understand how having an actual *course* helps with insurance discounts.

There are homeschool driver's ed programs.  Here is one:

  5. I took drivers ed through the school and I'm homeschooled.  and there are private places you can take it too.  I'll be gettng my license in 2 1/2 months (!!!)

  6. Are you saying that you can't go to public school for your driver's training?

We live in a homeschool friendly state and our local public high school accommodates both private school and homeschool students in their driver's training program.

  7. That really depends on where you live.  Most places have private driving schools, even if the public schools have drivers ed classes.

Look up the DMV in your state, it should have answers.  Or post on here where you live and someone may have a good answer.

    Good luck :D

  8. my son took drivers ed by a privite party that taught

drivers ed. called Andy's driving school in Wisconsin.

There might be one where you live also.

  9. It depends on where you live.  All I needed was to take the written test, and I also needed a letter from my school saying I could read at a certain level. I took a test at Sylvan Learning Center for that.
