So my parents have decided to move us yet once again. today was my first day of my new school and i absolutely hated it. im a sophmore in highschool and really wouldve liked to finish at my other school. I should i go about telling my parents i would like to be home schooled. i know i should give my new school more of a chance but the people just seem stuck up and wont even talk to me. i really dont wanna go through another year of trying to make new friends with people like this. i think it would be better for my education too. there are to many distractions on this school and so many people (its a regional highschool) i honestly think d be better off homeschooled.

  1. To impress your parents, look up and print off the homeschooling laws where you live and/or look at some online schools you'd be willing to do. Also look up some homeschooling groups. You sound like many of the high school homeschoolers I know who because they are not interested in the whole drama thing and don't get snobbery. Then talk to your parents over the dinner or something. Let them know what's going on at school. Tell them you've looked into some alternatives and want to know what they think. Asking them what they think means they aren't in a position of having to give or not give permission--they can actually take the time to THINK about it. Let them think about it and ask questions and you ask questions. At that point, you'll have to take it from there.

  2. Hey there

I can understand I got pulled out of middle school because the state wasn't giving me the right education that I needed . I was taking below classes when they need to put me in higher class and the basiced everything on the fcat . So my mom pulled me out after she talked to some people at our church . It really is alot better than public school though . You get to have one on one sessions and learn at your own level and time . If you get a curriculum than they take care of all your credits and stuff like that .. just like any public high school would . and you can even get a diploma and college scholarship .. but yea check with your parents and tell that you think that homeschooling is the best thing for you  . Here are some sites that will help you ..

  3. I'll tell you what your parents are gonna tell you, which is No.

You're asking your parents to make quite a sacrifice so you can feel a bit more comfortable.  A home-schooling curriculum is a lot of work for both the kid and his parents, and parent's time is often better spent on the job making money.

You will survive your new school.  Generations have done so before you.  Make an appointment with one of the school counselors if you have a specific problem--they're not really equipped to deal with general complaints.

This is a time for you to be brave and forthright and mature.  The world keeps getting bigger, and you'll need to learn to deal with it.  You actually sound like a smart kid, but absolutely paralyzed with fear.  But give it a couple of weeks and you'll be fine.

  4. I agree with you that you'll probably do better at home.  High school is not real life... not at all!  There is nothing that goes on in high school that prepares you for real life, or even for college.  It's pretty much a holding tank, sad to say.

What do you think your parents will think about homeschooling?  At your age, you can really do the work yourself, and they would just be the facilitators anyway.  You can probably take science and math classes at the local community college if you need more help than your parents can give you.

    I wish you well!

  5. u should because u do all the work on the computer and if there are other kids u can instant message them any time i can do that at my home school

  6. maybe give your new school more time, then if your parents agree t home school, i agree with you!

  7. Honestly I think homeschool is a terrible mistake for a few reasons. The parents have to be actively involved with your education. It's so easy to cheat the homeschool system. I know my brother did. My parents could be in jail right now if he'd have gone forward. They ignored him the entire time he was supposed to be being educated unless it was a test then my mom would take it for him. He is ten years younger than I am and they said that they made a mistake with me that they don't want to make with him. I partied too much is all but I've grown up just fine. Not all parents are active in their kids education and it's super easy to send them off to school and let them get what they can on their own. My brother has a g.e.d. but had difficulty finding work. I blame my parents and totally think they shouldn't be charging him rent it's their fault. Poor thing, didn't even get the basics.

Another thing is the SOCIAL skills. You may not get a long with your peers. Maybe you need to adjust a bit too. But a highlight of going to public schools is adjusting to dealing with all kinds of people that you will have to do in life. You may not be able to work from home when you graduate.

Rethink it a bit more before you are completely sold on homeschool.

If you tried to make friends with the other students then you could have lasting friendships. Are you judging the other students too harshly?

  8. well you could jus sit theme down and tell them you woould like to be homeschooled jus tell them the way you feel about things.. i was homeschooled all my life and i grad. when i was 16. and i went to gateway homeschool its a bible based school..

  9. Yep, you have the right idea for success.

If you live in a state served by these two programs, your home school can be free.

Moving during high school is awful. It delayed my graduation a year even with summer school because the requirements were different between 2 different states. I couldn't keep my existing foreign language Latin because it wasn't offered at new school. No honors program at new school and I skipped days because I was bored. Makeup work was at least challenging. Yuck. High school was an awful memory for me!

    Good luck!

  10. It would be worth researching (a good educational skill) and presenting your information to your parents. A little work might show your dedication. Some states even have virtual school which is basically public school at home.  As there are SO many different options for homeschool, from online and correspondence to parent led teaching... they may not have any idea that there are other options out there.. Just be sure to meet up with others.. don't isolate yourself. Get out, join clubs, groups and get active with other homeschoolers or neighborhood kids. Good luck!

Wow, Emily. It seems that you seem to have an issue with your parents. If you brother has his GED, he did fine and obviously learned something. The GED is tougher than many public school exit exams.  I know people that have their bachelor degree and have trouble getting jobs, so again, it sounds like you are placing blame because you disagree with your parent's choices?

OH and those two programs; K12 and Connection Academy are not "FREE" but paid with state tax dollars. Although they are educational options, they are public school, not homeschool.

  11. Just explain to your parents why you want to be homeschool and I don't see any reason why not. Homeschooling is great and you're still entitled to public school benefits, sports, music and many more, and you are also entitled to scholarships. Visit www.academyconnection.com they are a distance education school which is free and are located in many states. (grade k-12)They provide all the educational materials needed and because you're in highschool you can do their online school instead of having a teacher at home and the great part is they have a teacher that visits your home or place of choice for an hour once a week. Check out there website and present it to your parents so they know more about it also and maybe you could convince them when your harmed with all your information. They are a public school at home and if you don't have a computer they provide you one. Hope this help!

  12. sit your parents down and tell them what you have told us and I hope that it works out for you . good luck .

  13. Give your new school a little more of a chance, but in the meantime do some research about homeschooling at your grade level so that you know what is involved.  Would one of your parents be able to help you with the work?  Talk about it seriously with your parents and see what they think.   If you do decide to go the  homeschooling route, do it with care and in a well thought out way.  You may also want to consider what you want to do after high school, and whether homeschooling would affect your plans.  Best of luck.
