Homeschoolers: What are you doing this weekend?

I’m not chatting, but honestly curious as to what other homeschool families do on the weekends. Maybe I’ll find an idea for an activity my family would enjoy. This is especially relevant in light of the “socialization” comments and questions we often face.

  1. Today I'm just going to be helping out with major cleaning around the house...the kind that takes ten hours and takes a couple metric tons of cleaning supplies. Heading over to my boyfriend's house at about 6 to watch a movie with four or five mutual friends, that should be fun.

Tomorrow I'm probably going to lug my bass (guitar) over to another friend's house and pretend like I know how to play for a couple hours, then have the rest of the day with my boyfriend.

  2. welll.... today im going to the mall w/ my friends and then im going to youth group.. that'll take up the day. to morrow i'll go to church and then go workout w/ my friends and then probably someone will come over and hang out w/ me

  3. Well... we would have been going to our support group's annual Spring Dance tomorrow... but two out of three of us are sick...

We would also have been making Birch syrup and my son was going to go metal detecting with a friend at an old closed down school that dates back to about 1900 (hoping to find some silver coins).

So, instead, it is a movie watching and reading weekend for us - chicken soup is in the crock pot.

  4. Today is a big cleaning day, especially since the weather is nice. Mom had me clean the leaves out of the garden, and she's cleaning the porch. Dad and the boys are installing a new faucet in the sink, and took the wood that wasn't used this winter back outside.

When they finish we'll be heading to our homeschool basketball teams' end-of-season party.

Sundays are always morning church service, home to lounge (normally read a book or Latin homework), and back to church for evening service.

  5. Well, ds is at a Boy Scout campout this weekend with a few hundred other kids (it's a once-every-few-years district-wide thing, for every troop in the area), so he's having fun with that.

Hubby is getting in some overtime this weekend, and doing projects in the backyard.  I'm working on lesson planning for the summer (we school year-round, so I take advantage of campout weekends to lesson plan and organize) and trying out some new recipes.

On non-campout weekends, we get together with friends, go to a nature center, zoo, or museum, or work on projects and badges that ds chooses to tackle.

  6. Weekends for us tend to be quiet time with with all the group activities taking place on week days. Today we went and had a picnic and played in the park. Dd made a new friend and showed him where the big goldfish pond is and they fed them together. When we got back we worked on the frog project, looked at the tadpoles with a magnifying glass, added to the life cycle lapbook and made a couple of decorated lilly pads to hang on the frog mobile.

Tomorrow, who knows, the weather forecast isn't good so it'll probably have to be indoors.

  7. Last night I had a big game night with my friends (mostly 15-19 year olds) at my house, we played Harry Potter Trivia, Life, and Narnia Stratego.  Then we ended up at the elementary school/park across the street from my house and played on the playground, played frisbee & frisbee golf, threw the fox tail around, and played with my dog.  That is pretty much a normal Friday night; friends, pizza, soda & tons of fun!

Today, I finished up some work for college classes.  I'm researching for a final project that's due in a month.  I already feed, watered, cleaned cages for my chickens & rabbits.  I'll end up on the couch later on tonight watching Mork & Mindy episodes and probably a little bit of Food Network.

Tomorrow, I'll go to church, then relax and do something fun.  I might have a friend come over and hang out before the school week starts.

  8. I'm just spending some quality time with my boyfriend, really.

  9. Well, we match our homeschool schedule to my husbands work schedule, and he gets Sunday and Monday off.  So Sunday we will be going to church.  For some reason after church we are usually pretty tired... (I never can figure out what is so tiring about it... we love it) so after church we usually take it real easy at home for awhile.

Monday is our family day.  This Monday we don't have specific plans, but I am thinking about spring cleaning too.  I have gads of homeschool resources I never use sitting in my basement, I want to go through them and put the ones I don't plan to use again up for sell. (shhhh! don't tell my husband and kids or they might MAKE plans just to avoid it!)

  10. We started our weekend with a kick off for our community baseball program last night-a picnic followed by the first game of the season (my daughter).  They lost 3-0 but it was a good game, and my daughter made an excellent play.  She moved up from Machine Pitch to Little League this year, and is the only girl on her team.  All of the teams were present for the picnic (11 total, from Tee Ball to Little League) so both her and my son got to play with many friends, and my husband and I saw many of our own.

A niece spent the night last night, and they have been playing all day inside and outside.  I took the baby to the grocery store while my husband stayed home with our older two and that niece.  A friend and one of his friends stopped by a little while ago.  Tonight my husband is taking our daughter to a Father Daughter Dance (Girl Scout event).

Tomorrow, we will go to church and I am not sure what else as of yet.
