  1. Some do some don't.

A diploma doesn't mean much to a university or college.

The most important piece of paper is the results-sheet of your college level SAT, ACT, AP, and/or CLEP exam.  If you plan to begin college at a community facility all you will need is a good showing on the placement test.  Even a poor test will qualify you to take remedial adult-ed classes.

Homeschoolers that learn "how to study" and are willing to show a strong work ethic will do very well in college.

We made a *certicificate of education* for my daughter when she graduated.  It is nothing more than a keep-sake just like any other diploma.

A diploma means nothing more than the fact that somebody else says that you finished something.  Every diploma means something different too because everybody that gets one hasn't done the same thing.  Each school has different graduating requirements and class loads.  An "a" in math at one school doesn't reflect the same information as an "a" in math at another school or merely from another teacher.

Any student, whether educated at home or in a pond, will do well to learn everything to the very best of their own ability.  The harder you are willing to work the further you will be able to go.  Study for mastery -- not just to pass a test but to truly KNOW every bit of the material.  Being entirely right and accurate is more important than any diploma.

  2. Yes and Yes

  3. Homeschoolers do get diplomas.  Their parents make them or order them from print shops.  The colleges don't usually even ask for them though.  What colleges want to see are transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, sometimes a portfolio, and the usual application, which sometimes includes an essay.

The diplomas are not accredited, but neither are many public school diplomas, because accreditation is not required by law.  A diploma is nothing more than a fancy piece of paper stating that you met the graduation requirements for your school, which is why colleges really want to see transcripts that tell exactly what you studied and how well you did.

Go to http://www.hslda.org/highschool/default....  for more details about transcripts and diplomas for homeschooled students.  Also go to http://www.hslda.org/docs/nche/000002/00... to see a list of colleges that routinely accept homeschoolers.

The tier 1 colleges are best, they ask for exactly the same thing from homeschoolers as Public Schoolers, the tier two will ask for additional tests, and the tier 3 are really obnoxious and insist on a GED, plus a SAT, and several Sat subject tests as well.

  4. Probably. Yes.

  5. Yes, homeschoolers get diplomas.  Those who are enrolled in an academy get one from the academy, and those whose parents teach them at home get one signed by their parents after they complete their required coursework.  It's every bit as legit as one that would come from a school.

Diplomas don't get you into uni - transcripts and test scores do.  In the 15+ years that I graduated (from public school), I've never had to show my diploma to anyone.  Heck, I've only ever had to show my transcript to the colleges I applied to.

Homeschoolers are accepted to and enrolled in nearly every college/uni in the country.  The only uni system that has a problem with it is the UC system, and that can be circumvented by a year or two at another college.

  6. Yes of course they do anyway when u enter collage they give u specialized tests in order to test your knowledge and to find out just where u belong in the educational district...

  7. Yes, homeschoolers do get a diploma if their program is accredited. I was homeschooled for my junior and senior years through Alpha Omega Academy and received my diploma at a ceremony they offered. With this program you don't really need your parents to teach you, you sort of teach yourself and at your own pace. They have excellent tutors you can talk to if you ever need any help. If you want any more information about it just let me know!

  8. In most US states (or possibly all, not sure), parents provide the diploma and transcripts, if their children receive a diploma at all. Where I live in Canada, if you want a recognized diploma, you have to meet provicinal requirements just like any high school student. At least once province does not allow you to get a provincially accredited diploma.

You do not need a diploma to get into college/university. They want test scores or specific course marks.

  9. Yes. Yes.
