You register and take the test at an approved test center just like anyone else.

If you're in middle school and qualify for talent searches, you can take it early though their sponsoring universities.

Oops, I read the question too quickly and thought it said SAT.  Here's the ACT link:

  2. Just go to the ACT website posted above. You'll find local test sites and upcoming test dates, and choose one. You pay online...and they'll send confirmation via email. Read through their website because they have a bunch of suggestions to help you prepare for your test, what to bring on test day, what to expect.

Show up on test day, follow the instructions and go for it! Good luck! Remember to get plenty of sleep two or three nights before, and eat a good breakfast!

  3. Go to the ACT site and they have a list of nearby locations, dates and fees.  It's usually in the $50 range.  You have to plan to stay for the entire session and show up BEFORE time.  No refunds for late shows and they may not let you in if you're late.

  4. Go to the appropriate website, register for the test, and determine which test location you'll take it at. You don't take it at your school when you're in public high school. It has nothing at all to do with your school.
