Question:

Homeschooling Australia?

What happens when your home schooled child has decided they would like to be a Veterinarian ? How do they go about getting the mark needed to enter this or another particular profession at University? Seeing as they are not in the system to achieve a HSC Certificate with the appropriate mark for entrance? Is there somewhere they can go to acheive this?

Thank you.

  1. If you sign up for an online school, your child will receive a diploma [or the equivalent in your country].

The online school I'm with, Alpha Omega Academy, is accredited in many countries.  I know for sure in, Austria, Spain, and England.

You could call them, ask, and maybe request an information packet.

They're a really good school.  I love them.

  2. Australia has some fabulous schools ......why not send her to one of those so she can complete her HSC.

There are so many good private school in Sydney. All with top academic ranking for HSC.

  3. I suggest you look up a local university. (I know the UNSW has this section) On their website they have a section outlining the different ways to get into a course and the pre reqs, most courses offer a way in for children who were home schooled.

  4. Don't worry; this is an easy one.

You just need to contact those Uni's that your daughter is interested in and ask about their proceedures for special entry applicants. The Uni may ask her to sit the STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test); the Uni will probably organise that for her and may even offer her some tutoring beforehand.

Alternatively some Uni's may accept her on the basis of her 'life experience' - home schooling experiences, part time jobs, volunteer work, personal achievements etc.

I also reckon you could probably enter her for the HSC as an independent candidate if that is the way she wanted to go. I'm not sure of the exact details though, being an unschooler and all that. I'd think the best place to go to get information, r.e. her doing the HSC, would be your local exam board.

  5. I'm sorry I'm not more informed about homeschooling in Australia.  However, I think if you posted on yahoo for Australia, you would get answers from those who are familiar with Australian homeschooling laws.
