  1. I home schooled my son for 2 years in California.  You need to find a charter school that you can home school through.  It is FREE.  They supply all materials, books, paper, maps, anything you need and that they have available in their facility.  You could probably look on line for charter schools but, looking in the phone book would be best.  Most public schools won't give you info because, they loose money if your child does not attend public funded schools.  Charter schools are allowed so much money per year from the state.Your child will be assigned an educator that will give her assignments and projects.  She will meet approx once a month to turn in work and possible testing.  She will get new assignments for the next month.  This is how it worked for us in California.  I hope this helps and hopefully Texas offers such programs.  Good Luck! 2. I have the same problem and I also placed a question.

    I am in NYS.

if i find anything out in my searches for texas i'll email you.

ICheck some of these links out they may offer some resources

  3. I hate to say this, but the ball is in your court now.  If she was failing and your solution was home schooling without researching it first, then you have also failed .... "Homeschooling is a method of education through which the PARENTS take sole responsibility to oversee the entire education of their children in a PERSONAL, DIRECT MANNER. It is characterized by a one-on-one tutorial method of education using the parents as teachers/tutors and most often takes place within the home of the students."

I'd suggest, if you don't think you can do it, then you put her back in school, get involved, and keep in contact with and support her teachers. The teacher's can only do so much, you have to be involved also.

    .

Now, tell me a teacher's job is easy.

    .

    EDIT...

By Florida law...By definition, "a home education program is "sequentially progressive instruction of a student in his or her home by his or her parent or guardian." As the parent, you are your child's primary instructor. Certain types of instruction outside the home are permissible and encouraged. These could include field trips, ballet, gymnastics, sports, music, art, co-ops, tutoring in advanced subjects, and others. "

"in his or her home by his or her parent or guardian." are the key words here, Therefore, the school in Fl, listed below, can NOT be considered as "home schooling", but as a "private" school. The school may or may not be good, but the difference between home schooling and private schooling, should not be confused.  According to "Great Schools" website, that school has a pupil/teacher ratio of an unbelievable 51/1, that doesn't sound much like home schooling does it? [  http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/cs_c... ]

    .

If you plan to go the "private" school route, rather than true "home" schooling, but sure to check out the school,  and I don't mean just "their" website".

  4. Try going to www.homeschoolhelps.org. This site is affordable and growing continually. They will even help you with specific home school issues.

  5. call 1-866-626-6413 k12.com

  6. In Texas, you can do as you please. If you want to create a program for her, then do it. You might want to find a decent math text, but everything else you could find from the library. Not that the librarian is just going to give you a curriculum, just that you will find all the books you need there. Literature to read and books for history research and learning science; even books for improving spelling and grammar. If you want to make sure she gets an education, you'll just have to do some research to find out what she needs to learn and put some limits in place so that she learns what she needs to learn.

Find yourself a local homeschool support group and find out what other people in your area recommend, what they do, see even if they have used resources they'd be willing to sell for cheap...

  7. Home schooling is never easy. It is actually very hard work. Whether you enroll your daughter in an online school or do something at home, you will need to at least take a supervisory role and make sure that her work is getting done.

You can create your own curriculum from materials at the library, but that means that you will have to write lesson plans, maintain records so that you can create a transcript, and, if she graduates through homeschool, issue a diploma.

Homeschooling would also require that your daughter, excercises self discipline and gets her work done in a timely manner, especially if you are not going to be with her during the day.

It's not really homeschooling, but you could check with your local school district, to see if there are any online charter schools available in your state. Online Charter Schools are public schools which offer home study programs. I know that K-12 is one such program.

  8. Go to Accelerated Christian Education website AKA School of Tomorrow. Fantastic curriculum and reasonable. email me if you have any other question about it. rcascholarships@yahoo.com

  9. What about joining a homeschooling support group? I found a local group through yahoo groups. And they are part of an organization called H.E.R.I. http://www.herijax.com/

maybe there's something similar in your local area.

Also, through a support group, your daughter will still have socialization, the option of extra curricular activities /clubs/ sports, and she might even still be able to have a prom. (Some groups offer their own proms, other kids choose to go with some friends at their local school)

  10. My dad and I run an accredited private school for homeschoolers in central Florida.  Our registration and tuition is $375 for the whole year.  That does not include books but we can get you your books and give you prices.

When the kids are done with high school they get a real highschool diploma and our grads have gone onto colleges across the country, the military, the workplace, etc.  We've had kids accepted to Yale, MIT, state colleges, all branches of the miltary and so forth.  We have about 800 students in our school this year.  Most are in Florida but we also have missionary families around the world and families across the country.

Some of our students even transfer back to their public school when they get caught back up.

Our graduation class last year was 100.  We have been in business since 1995 and have graduated 1000's.

If you'd like some more info you can e-mail me at donjl@yahoo.com or visit our website at www. families of faith christian academy.com (no spaces).

    We'd be glad to help.

  11. Yes indeed tuition can be high for most online schools.

Have you thought of working with an online homeschool course co-op? Thes online course co-op idea is still pretty new, but it makes so much sense and with the tools out there on the net now I think there will be many popping up all over the net in the next few years.

Basically, a homeschool course co-op is a group of homeschoolers that have divided up the courses so that each mom (or dad) teaches one class to their own children and a few of the other co-op member's children. Then that homeschool mom's children get to enroll her own children in other co-op member classes.

Everything is done online so there is no travel and a group can form up no matter what their geographic locale is. In our group, we have students from all over the US and a few from Canada as well. We have even had a few homeschoolers from the Eastern Hemisphere asking about joining in and making a set of classes for their timezones - an international virtual homeschool group.

In our homeschool co-op, the current rules are that co-op member kids get first placements in classes. If there are seats that that teacher still has open, then guest students of parents who are not actively teaching can join in too. It is a great way to see if online instruction is a good fit before commiting time. All the classes are free because it is a co-op; though there is potential that non-teaching-members may eventually be charged a small fee after their first year of free courses. This encourages more to teach and thereby we will have more classes and more seats resulting in growth.

If you want to take a look at out Virtual Homeschool Group Co-op, our website is http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/.

Most of the synchronous classes have already begun and are full, but many have assynchronous options. Just browse around and get a feel for how the whole idea works. You can enter nearly all the courses as a guest.

  12. Well you should have planned it out more before you withdrew her.

    Try:

    www.k12.com

    http://www.connectionsacademy.com

Email me through my profile link for some other help, if you are anywhere near central TX, or need info on TX homeschool laws, etc.

Edit: if you are not totally set on online homeschooling, then yes you can go to the library and get grade appropriate books, but most of the time they don't have lessons so you might want to check ebay for some used cheap books with tests and lessons..
