Homeschooling education question???

In Iowa I know that the law states that there is no limit to the degree a person who educates the child must have.

So does that mean that parents can enroll their children in homeschooling and then can have uncertified teachers teach them in a smaller environment with less kids?

Basically, there is this school that is not accredited that does not have all certified teachers but the progress their students make is excellent.

So if I enroll in homeschooling, I can place my child in that program?

  2. as far as i know...private schools sometimes don't have certified teachers.

  3. I don't think states require private school teachers to have teaching degrees. If it would be full time, then it sounds like it might qualify as a private school; if it doesn't and you're allowed to not be the educator, then yes, you can put your child in that program.

  4. Home schooling means that you, the parent, are teaching the child at home.  You could hire a tutor to do your teaching job but if you enrol your children in another school, then it is not home schooling.

How do you know what progress the children in this school are making?  Do not the school's word for it.  Give a randomly selected student a test in all subjects and see how they do.  If the school is not accredited and the teachers uncertified, then the targets against which they measure progress are strongly suspect.

  5. Yes, although it sounds like if it is a high school program , then they won't receive an accredited diploma. There are many unaccredited private schools. This would not be considered homeschooling. Most private christian schools do not require that the teachers be credentialed.

If it seems like a good program...go for it!

(fyi-some public school lose their accreditation and parents are unaware of it.This happened at Orange High School in OC, CA)

    Best of Luck!
