  1. No it is usually not a scam. You have to make sure the school is nationally accredited, though. Yes you do have to pay, as with any degree. I am currently enrolled in the University of Phoenix, studying Pshchology. It is a real degree, and costs around 19,000 for an associates degreee. They offer all the way up to a PHD.  It is tough, just like you were on campus, and quite possibly, tougher, because you are not face to face with your instructors or classmates. Good luck!!

  2. You can go to any local Home Schooling entity and get your diploma. The best course is an accelerated course.

Go to an accredited private school that facilitates Home Schooling and utilizes an accelerated curriculum that adapts to the needs of Home Schooling students. This is the easiest and cheapest way to earn a REAL diploma.

Please check with http://www.aceministries.com/homeschool/... and they can probably give you the name of the school closest to you that can help.

  3. The High School diploma ones are fine if they are accredited, you are probably best to stick with one that also enrolls lots of homeschooled kids, rather than one that focus solely on adults.

    http://www.edanywhere.com

and http://www.scahomeschool.com   are both good, but are by no means the only options

The training ones vary widely, some are legitimate and some are not, and it also depends what you are getting trained for and what your state law says about the requirements for licensing in that field.  For example, learning home inspection on-line might be fine if your state law will license you with an on-line degree.

Generally you should give preference to a school that is accredited through one of these agencies:

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools

New England Association of Schools and Colleges

North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities

Western Association of Schools and Colleges

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

These are also okay, though the ones above are preferred:

    Distance Education and Training Council

Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools

Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology

Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training

    Council on Occupational Education

There are other accrediting agencies that are sometimes recognized, for instance specialized religious ones for pastoral studies, and specifics for Engineering and such.  But generally, for most studies the ones above are what you want to look for.

  4. Yes, it is possible to get a GED online as well as certifactes and degrees but you can check out each of these schools online, making sure they are accredited. You can also check with the BBB to see if any complaints have been filed.

Take Bryant & Stratton College.. they offer these options and are trustworthy.

  5. Contact your county ~ via web or in person.

There are GED courses available thru them.

Training that you have to pay for --- unless from an accredited university (and some ARE online) are usually a scam.

    Good luck!
