  1. not unless you apply to sit for the diploma exam. homes schooled people can still sit for major exams, just as private candidates.

  2. Somebody already shared the online school in Texas. If you go to the K12 website, you will see it there in "Get K12". It's only up to a certain grade level, however. If your child is registered with K12, they won't be considered homeschooled--they will be online or public schooled students doing their schooling at home. None of the homeschooling laws will apply.

If you do basic homeschooling--which is free other than what you decide to purchase--the state knows nothing because you simply homeschool. You are considered a private school and private schools in Texas don't need to register or anything. Any records are kept by the private school--which in the case of homeschooling means the homeschooling parents. Diplomas are issued by the private school--which in the case of homeschooling means the parents. Some people freak out at that and go, "But parents are just going to give their kids a diploma even if they haven't done any work!" To which I would have to say, "Oh, is that how you would do it?" If parents do that, the child suffers and it will become obvious that their diploma is meaningless. I have met homeschooling parents online from Texas and they were very meticulous in looking up what types of courses and content public and private schooled kids needed to follow to earn their diplomas. Some added in requirements that they felt were important but schools typically didn't. Their kids got a good education.

And btw, it's not true that homeschoolers have to take mandatory testing in Texas. Any county requiring that is actually doing something illegal.

  3. dont home school your children you **** up their social abilities and their interaction with the world. Trust me, public education is for their best development.

  4. In the State of Texas there is a standardized test that home-schooled children must pass... well at least in Bexar County.    Although I must say in my opinion, the majority of parents that I have met who home school (the ones in my family included) are not qualified to teach puppies, much less prepare children for college.  Examine your reasons for homeschooling and assess your abilities.  If you don't like the public Schools in Texas (understandable) seek tuition assistance at private schools.

  5. All ivy league schools now accept home schoolers.  And have commented that they tend to be better students.  homeschooltracker.com has a real good system of record keeping.  Download basic for free.  Sorry, no free tuition program anywhere, that I know of.  I do not know TX law.  You can look it up on line enter homeschooling requirements in Texas in your search engine.  Good luck.  You can email me if you have any questions.  Or if you hear any more uneducated, public school warped schmucks saying you need to send your kids to public school.  You only get about 15 good years to influence your children to become the adults you would like them to be.  Why leave 10 of that to someone else?

  6. Nordic, if you are reading these responses, please share information on the officials who require standardized testing of homeschoolers.  I would like to report them to hslda as this practice is illegal.

In Texas, there are no record keeping requirements and the teaching parent issues the diploma.

Here is some more info on Texas homeschooling:

  7. Yes, there is a virtual academy in Texas. Go to http://www.txva.org/ for more info. You can attend one of their parent information sessions (physical or online) and get all of your questions answered there. Good luck homeschooling!!!
