  1. http://www.hslda.org

    This site will be of great help to you.

    http://www.herijax.com/

    If you are in or around the Jacksonville area this is also a great place to go.

  2. IF you home school them PLEASE get them involved in outside things. So they can socialize with other people and KIDS. I know so many home schoolers who are WEIRD. Kids need to be around other people. Get them into sports, church outtings, Summer camp anything besides home.

  3. It is not difficult at all. www.hslda.org would be a great place to start.

    You have to write a letter of intent to the superintendent of your district. They need to be tested using a standardized test each year (we use Iowa Test of Basic skills) or be evaluated by a teacher.

    To Tino: You did not answer the question and chose instead to "rant" and insult homeschoolers. I hope others see that as a violation of the guidelines and report you as I have. One or two kids that are homeschooled and YOU consider to be "weird" does not mean all home schoolers are weird. I know a lot of "weird" public schoolers, but I don't judge ALL public school kids by their example.

    go here, all what you need is in there (:

  5. Fl is a pretty easy state. A letter of Intent (this simply states that you are the Legal guardian and are removing the child from the Public/Private sector and homeschooling)...this should include when they are being pulled from their curent school and when home instruction will begin. Florida only requires 180 days of instruction    (trackable with a pocket calendar) and field trips DO count as a school day.

    You will need the following things:

    a calendar (pocket or wall) for attendance;

    a plastic file box for storing schoolwork (legal size & available cheap at Walmart);

    legal size file folders ( label for each subject & place in file box---this is now a Portfolio)

    I am a big fan of Dollar Tree since  they started a Teacher section ----most will carry Lesson Plan and Attendance Books and lots of posters..

    Please feel free to contact me at ChildHomeAcademy@aol.com if you need any help, I also have a ton of FREE websites that depending on your child's age and grade level might be of interest.

    For anyone who is in the Central Fl area, there is a Fossil Fair at the Central Fl Fairgrounds this Sat (9/13) and the Orlando History Center is having 2 camp days---1 is 9/19 and will focus on Archeology, is $20 and all day and the other is 9/26 and will focus on the Postal Service, also $20...these are Fridays and you provide your child's lunch, snack and drink and are for the children only (parents can take the day off). Homeschoolers are welcomed and these can count towards their schooling.

    Since I don't know where in Florida you are, I thought I'd give you a heads up.

  6. FL is actually a pretty decent state.

    You enroll by sending a letter of intent to your district. You have to have your child evaluated annually and show proof that they have advanced in accordance to their ability. You must maintain a portfolio of their work that can be inspected by the district on request (with notice) - which is not routinely done.

    You might want to check out http://www.FLHomeschoolers.com for ideas & support within FL.
