Homeschooling in Randolph County, NC?

How do I go about homeschooling my daughter (8th grade)?

We live in Randolph County, North Carolina.

She does great in school, but we've decided to home-school her for the remainder of this year.

I just need to where I get her books, etc.

Thanks so much

  1. First, I would suggest you look at the Home School Legal Defense Association website. They have summaries of the homeschooling laws for all 50 states. That should be a start in knowing what kind of paper work you need to make your homeschool legal.

You can get homeschool books many places--there are big curriculum sellers like Rainbow Resource and Christian Book Distributors.  Most communities have homeschooling support groups that do curriculum swaps or used book sales. Your state organization likely has a homeschool convention at least once a year where you can browse their vendor hall. You could also google homeschool materials/books/curriculum/products,etc and the name of your state to locate a smaller homeschool supplier near you.

If you want to search for used materials, you can find those on Amazon, vegsource, homeschoolbid, and other auction-type forums. Sometimes you'll find things on ebay, but ebay has forbids teacher editions, so that can be limiting. HSLDA also has a curriculum market that is an auction site for materials--but you need to be a member to bid and purchase.

There is so much out there that it can be very overwhelming! If you email me from my profile name, I would be happy to send to you a summary of different homeschooling approaches that we used to hand out to new homeschoolers at our store.

    Best wishes!!

  2. Hi neighbor.  Access books on the north side of High Point is a great resource.  Stacy is very helpful and she has many used books and can direct you and order for you.

    Look for email from me.

Meanwhile, here is one of the many groups that are online.

  3. Start at the North Carolina Department of NonPublic Education. It has LOTS of information, plus what you need to do to register in this state. Its really not hard to homeschool in NC, but you do have to register with the state. Also look up  the Homeschool Legal Defense Association.  As for curriculum the best place to start is your library. Read up on homeschooling, and then decide what you want to teach. Good Luck.
