  1. I was homeschooled all the way through high school. I am currently in my first semester at Claremont McKenna College, which tied for the most selective liberal arts college in the country this year. So yes, homeschooling through high school can work very well. It just all depends on how motivated the student and their parents are. There no limits to what you can do in homeschool high school -- you can make it as amazing as you want.

  2. i didn't really like it because you have to be really focused and there isn't a whole lot of support. it's based on how fast you work and there's a whole lot more work than in public school. public school is much more structured. i guess it really depends on whether you have motivation to do it by yourself.

  3. We have compromised a little this year. My daughter takes 3 classes and does sports and clubs at the local high school. I simply could not give her what she needed and she is very athletic. We did a lot of praying and there are a lot of accountability rules in place. She is doing fine now and it seems to be working out. She actually has been able to stretch her wings a bit  and exercised her faith. I am not saying its good for everyone....some kids may not do well in that environment. The parents are the key, they HAVE to stay close to the kids and know whats going on in their lives.

  4. I think it is FANTASTIC!  You have an opportunity to take classes at a college level with experts in the fields you are interested in. You have an opportunity to really customize your education, work at your own pace and explore interests through internships and jobs.  At the same time you have enough free time to socialize with your friends.

My high school experience with so-called "certified teachers" was horrible. They were certified in 'education' but not in the subjects they were teaching, so I had teachers in chemistry, geometry and physics who knew virtually nothing about these subjects, and certainly had never gone beyond a 4 year college degree in education with them. Since I was in public school and assigned to these classes, I was not able to switch to a new teacher who may have known the subject matter better. It was not a good situation, and as such my education, in spite of my high grade point average, suffered.

    My two cents !

  5. Many people homeschool through elementary and middle and then put their kids into high school.  I do not understand why the reasons to homeschool would change with the kids getting older.  The same reasons for homeschooling elementary should apply to high school.

Homeschooling high school is good because it is a more efficient use of time.  It allows students to learn and also have time for activities.

Teachers in high school are responsible for teaching 90 to 100 students. ( I base  the figure on 3-4 classes each day with 25-30 students in each class.)  It seems more reasonable for two concerned parents to be responsible for teaching only their own.  (Some only have to guide a self motivated student.  We are not there yet.)

  6. Homeschooling isn't for everyone.  For me it was a very good thing.  I learn certain things faster and then there are subjects that I have to take my time with.  I focus on the stuff that I have trouble with and master them.  I work full time and have fun, too.

  7. bad, everyone i know that was home schooled is semi-socially awkward. i did it for 2 years in 6th and 7th grade. hated it!

  8. Good.  Make own schedule, still able to be in most extracurriculars (depending on district) can be what ever the individual needs and is personalized.  Don't need to worry about schedules or the weather....

  9. well i think that there are some good and some bad things to homeschooling in high school.

    pros-

you get one on one time with your teacher. No big classes where they make fun of you for not understanding something

You can move at your own pace. you can be really ahead in science, and really far behind in math. Instead of being forced to move on the the next lesson, you can talk to your teacher about it, therefore you get more out of the lesson instead of just kinda moving along whether you understand it of not.

    Cons-

There is not as much social interaction. True, you can be on sports teams and go you youth groups, but its just not the same.

Later looking back you might wonder what it would have been like.

    Really hope this helps.

  10. 11. either or both have disadvantages and advantages

  12. Since our children can easily finish a regular high school program in less than two years, it works well for them.

They have so much more time to choose to work, take extra courses, and classes that give them the opportunity to pursue their interests.

  13. good because you cant lay out of school like most highschoolers do.

  14. good to a degree...

its good if its fun with friends and dancing arounnd

not good if its a popularity competition and fighting for boyfriends.
