Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding information on homeschooling in the state of texas? Are there particular guidelines that need to be followed....what if I decide to re-enroll in public school....what grade level will my child be placed in? Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Texas is very liberal all you have to do is make sure they learn or you teach English, History, Science, Math,

It's unclear what would happen if they go back to brick school, probably up to the school.

  3. thsc has the best info for Texas, since they are the state homeschooling coalition.

As far as re-enrolling in to public school (and I think you are wise to think in these terms), the state leaves it up to each individual district. Some districts are very homeschool friendly and will accept parent generated transcripts and place your child in the grade level you have recorded with no problems at all.

Others, however are very particular and downright difficult. The toughest districts will only accept "official" transcripts from schools that are not only accredited, but "Accepted" by the TEA.

Best bet is to check out your ISD's website and look for "admissions policies for homeschool students" to make sure you understand what you would possibly face if you found yourself in the situation of having to place your children back in the public system.

  4. www.hslda.org they will give you all the laws for any state you need! Texas is easy on Home School!

This is an alphabetical listing of the support groups by city and some county listings.  If you are in a sparsely populated county, check under the name of the biggest town of that county and next check under that county name.  If you live in a suburb of a large metropolitan area, check under the major regional areas first, then check under the name of your specific town that is attached to the larger city.

  6. Try the Texas Home School Association.
