Question:

Homeschooling my child. Information?

My four year old starts pre-school in the fall, she is going to a private school because our local elementary school pays for 4 kids each year to attend this small school. Pre-school here is only 3 hours a day so I thought that would be a good jump start, but when she starts 6 hours a day I want her doing it at home. How much will this cost, and how do I start planning? For socialization she will also soon be starting dance, and this private school offers one hour 3 days a week for things like gym class and reading just to get the kids in a class room.

  1. Planning?  You have already done that and it sounds like you did a good job!  You have planned social activities for her.  Now all you need to do is teach the basics for his/her age (numbers, letters, colors, etc.).  You can get little workbooks from Dollar Tree, Wal-mart, Target (whatever is in your area).  It will not cost alot.  Buy the cheap school supplies that go on sale in August.  Also look for websites such as these where you can print crafts and educational activities:

    http://www.dltk-teach.com/

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.ht...  (this is a site that has both free stuff and members only stuff)

Honestly, you'll spend less out of pocket homeschooling than sending them to public school.

  2. I answered this in your other question. Have a great day!

BTW, there are some books by "Core Knowledge" that I found helpful as a guide. Don't get stressed over doing EVERYTHING in the book though, all children learn at different rates. The set of books starts with "What Your Child Needs To Know in Preschool" and goes up to 6th grade. You can find these at the library usually as well.

  3. I would buy her some pre-school workbooks, which are only about $5.00. That is what we did with my child Ashton.
