  1. You can find resources at used or half price book stores, or at your local library.  Here is some additional info on reducing your homeschool expenses:

  2. Home schooling does not have to be expensive, and when you add all the cost of going to a conventional school up after buying all the supplies, and other fees that come along during the year, you may actually save money.

First check out the requirements for your state at http://www.hslda.org/

Second use the library extensively, and any books they may not carry order them with the inter-library loan program.

Then visit some of these web sites, if you want a long list of them post another question asking for web sites,we'll give you many of them ^_^.

It would be easier to help if there was a bit more information, like what grade level, or if there are multiple levels, including if known, the method of schooling.

This website will send you free curriculum, you need to apply early for the next school year though.

All they require is that you send them back, or pass it on other needy families.

  3. Virtual schools. They provide almost everything. I don't know if Michigan has one but you can look it up.

A virtual school or cyberschool refers to an institution that is not "brick and mortar bound ". All student services are conducted through Internet technology. The virtual school differ/contrasts from the traditional school through the physical media that links administrators, teachers and students and is an alliance of public distance learning schools. Many states in the United States have their own virtual school, and many of them have students numbering in the thousands. By providing a student's social security number the person is then entered into a database where they can chose which classes they want to take.

There are many different virtual school instructional and enrollment models. Instructional models range from fully independent self paced courses to semester based, teacher facilitated courses. Class sizes range widely with anywhere from 25 students to as many as 200 students in each class section. Students keep in contact with teachers and collaborate with other students through web communication tools provided in the course delivery platforms like Blackboard[1] or Moodle [2]. In some cases students communicate by phone with instructors. To help with communication many virtual schools have implemented their own system programs to help build courses and maintain student profiles. There are also many books and training manuals to aid in the development of such schools and courses.

Virtual schools may be free if the state pays for the courses, otherwise, there will be a course fee to be paid for by the student, parents or student's home school. Other materials would be purchased by the student, such as books.

Materials can also add up. Most courses will provide electronic materials free of cost, but others require some shopping on the students part. Textbooks are not required but can be used as an aid for coursework.

  4. Michigan is the state with the LEAST homeschool restrictions.  You aren't even required to give your school a letter of intent!  In my area (south central Michigan), the Christian bookstores have contacts for homeschool groups.  The group leaders can put you in contact with used curriculum supplies and other homeschool families in your area.  I'd start there.

  5. Please let us know what grade you're in; we can help you a lot better.

  6. I take schooling through ILC they offer online chat rooms with real teachers and word banks and every thing even mail in help. its www.ilc.org i dont know if it goes to your area or not but it would be perfect. my family to does not have a lot of money its only 40 CND.

  9. My husband and I home schooled our daughter through High School and now that she is in college, we continue to home school other peoples children in Illinois.

Without knowing your circumstances or grade level, I have included two sites pertaining to michigan law.

Your family does not have to have a lot of money to homeschool!

The least expensive and most convenient way to homeschool (in a nutshell) is to check with other students at your learning level (not grade level) that go to public school as to what text books they are using.

Have your parents preview them for appropriateness (not all public texts have good content!). Order off of half.com. I bought teaher and student textbooks for a high school student for $20 for both math and science.

The first yer of homeschooling is the hardest. Your parents will probably want to network with other homeschooling families. The most user-friendly places to locate oer homeschool families is through your local childrens librarian.

Occasionalloy you may find a whole cirriculum on e-bay that may work for you.

Theschool district may or may not be your enemy. Here the school superintendant helps us with resources, has an employee as a homeschool liason and we meet with her whenever we need advice (such a reltionship is rare, but it mayhappen)

    Best of luck to you.
