  1. Nope, your mom is incorrect.  She only "has to be there" to make sure you stay on track (if you use a public, teacher-led program, your teacher will also), help you with questions, and be the responsible party for you.

Your mom can, if she wants to, learn right along with you.  In that case, she might like to be with you at times when you are learning.

I assume you're in high school?  If so, then there are many options for online school (homeschool, public, private online, community college online....)

  2. No neither of these are true, there are many nationally acredited ones you can check out.

  3. Homeschooling is one of the best things that's ever happened to me. My parents gave me a beautiful childhood and my schedule is spectacularly flexible. But...online schooling is terrible. We tried it and ended it after 3 months. My whole day was spent with an aching back watching a foggy computer screen. As the sun goes down, still doing work. As for the needing someones help like a tutor or a mentor, no you do not. But I wouldn't recommend online schooling at ALL. I hope that helps :)

  4. Yes.  Online work is extremely difficult.  It sounds easy but the work is harder- sometimes even harder than regular class work.  There are dead lines to meet and the work can be overwhelming.  If you don't turn in work at a certain period, you can be kicked out of the class.

  5. it is too easy to get behind in homeschooling without supervision. The children I know who have either been or are now being homeschooled do much better and are more successful in college with supervised. The ones I know who did the online version either got extremely behind or , in a few cases, dropped out all together and got their GED.  Your mom can supervise BUT I would extremely suggest that you have a homeschool back up system that meets and works together or you just not do it at all. Yes, public school is hard, private can be harder.....but it takes total self discipline and a parent who does not work and can be "teacher" or it does not work at all. (trust me teaching your child at home is harder and more stressful than working a full time job, you have more at stake if you mess up)

  6. No, you don't have to have anyone there with you if you are old enough to be home on your own.

Here is some info about online homeschooling, along with some popular programs:

    Hope this helps!
