Homeschooling or Stay at public school?

Im really unhappy at school, and would be happier studying at home. The thing is I am being bullied but I still have a few close friends that I dont want to leave, but that would mean staying at school. My mum has arranged a meeting with the school deputy headteacher, to have a talk about it. I dont know what I want, id be much happier at home but what about my friends? I know I could still see them but I could be pushed out of the way and feel out of place when I do leave. If I do get homeschooled.. What is it like? Can you find me any UK based home schooling websites that are cheap, and understandable? What do I have to do to be home schooled? How does it work with timetables, how many hours what work? Do you still do P.E?

Please help, any advice is welcome.

Thanks in Advance..

  1. Well I'm sorry that you have to deal with all of that. I am homeschooled and I love it. So that is what it is like I guess... I'm not sure about stuff in the UK sorry... you have to take all of the same things that you would take in school, math, sicence, english, history if you are in high school you will want more so you can get all of your credits in. I'm not sure if there are any laws in the UK about time for homeschooling. I just do the work I have for the day until it is done, I am not doing a cyber school though. I don't know what a timetable is... I don't do P.E. somekids take sports at other schools.

As for advice... if you are homeschooled then really get orgenized it is easy to wonder off at times if you know what I mean... so yep thats just about it if you wann talk or have questions just email me : )

  2. Is it not true that 'friends' could push you aside even if you stay at the school? If they are your true friends, they'll be happy to see you after school and on the weekends. You might find that many of the things they discuss seem trivial though, removed emotionally from the gossip mill of the school.Or you might really enjoy having sleep overs and getting caught up on all the news.

Homeschooling is different from house to house, in our house we're very relaxed and do most of our learning through natural living. When we used a curriculum (that I made myself) it still took less than two hours a day to finish a year in four months. We do a lot of visits to places outside, museums, zoos, different towns. We went to a cheese manufactory, and also to a foundry, last month. Last week we visited all the fire stations in town (it was fire safetey week in the US) as well as a place that makes fire extinguishers.

We did a PE class for a while, but the kids got tired of it, so now we just emphasize healthful living and spend some time each day riding bikes, walking, jumping ropes, etc. My son is working on a pogostick, which is more work than you'd think.

I can't give advice on UK homeschooling, I live in the US, sorry.

  3. I'm in homeschooling or cyber school, whichever you want to call it, and I really enjoy it. :)

I have to put in at least 28 hours of work each week, but thats just based on the area that I live, so you may have to do more, or less, depending on your location.

I definitely think its much better than regular school though. Theres also less distractions, so its easier to get your work done quickly and efficiently.

    Hope I helped some. :)

  4. I'm 14 and I've been homeschooled my whole life and i love it i am very social my mom is always telling me i do way to much! i have i great homeschool group with lot of kids my age. just last week i went to homeschool homecoming there was about 100 kids there we had i great time i know that sounds really nerdy but it wasn't. its really easy the best thing for you to do is computer school look online for a homeschool group near you they will be able to give you alot of info.

  5. i was homeschooled in the 80s when homeschooling wasn't cool. and the downfall is that i'm a very anti-social person and don't have any lifelong friends. i did however learn a great deal more than public school ever could have taught me and finished 2 years early. it seems that now there is a much better support network and ability to interact with other homeschoolers as well as the advent of the internet. and the other diff is that you already have friends which you can keep but you may have to work to keep up with becuz you will not be involved in thier day to day lives anymore. so i think your education will benefit but your social life may suffer (or just become more challenging). good luck.

  6. you could switch schools but its your decision and you can still keep your friends even if you dont go to school you can call each other and go to each tohers houses

  7. My daughter now 15 was home schooled from the age of 11 to 15 and enjoyed every minute, she learned more in those 3 years than all the other years at school. The curriculum wasn't the same as at school and she could learn at a slower pace. She still managed to take a GCSE in maths 2 years earlier than her peers who were still at school. She is back in mainstream school now as we moved to Isle of Skye and is taking standard grades .
