Homeschooling?

i was homeschooled my 5th grade year and to tell you the truth i really didn't do anything during that time period so when I was asked if I wanted to go back to school I said yes and I know that I have to take a test to get back but why didn't I have to?

They don't usually test until high school. this is because they recognize that not all the children in public school are actually at the same level, so it's no biggie if you didn't do anything. Contrariwise, they're going to force feed the same info to all the kids, regardless of where they are at academically, so again, no biggie.

It all depends on the school that attended for homeschool and also the school that you went back to.  I had the same thing.. I was homeschooled and I wasn't required to take a test before coming back to public school.

Ok...your question is really something like 3 sentences, so it's a little hard to understand what you're asking, but I'll give it a shot.

I think you're wondering why you didn't have to take a placement test when you went back to school for 6th grade?  This is not required nationwide, or even statewide.  Schools are governed on the district level, not the state or national level, so each school district has its own rules.  Most elementary and middle schools will simply place you according to age.  Otherwise, they would have to test students coming in from anywhere, and that would not be feasible.

High schools will normally place you according to credits earned.  For students coming in from other schools, it's normally just a straight transfer.  For homeschool students, they will normally accept credits from an accredited program, but not from a homeschool curriculum that you and your mom set up.  Colleges and universities will accept a transcript that your parents make, but not your local public high school.  Go figure.  They generally won't test you, though.

Side note - last year, did you mention to your mom that you wanted to do more?  Much of the time, during the first few months (and even occasionally the first year) that a kid comes home from school they need a period of "deschooling" to transition with - they just plain don't do much during that time.  Your mom may have been giving you a "deschooling" time and may not have understood that you were ready to move on from that.  Just a thought :-)
