  1. You can't be home school till your in 8th grade. Sometimes though. Depends what source you use. I'm home schooled right now. First year. Best thing I ever did. I'm in Insight High School. Its cool, they GIVE you a laptop, printer, and headphone set. All you have to get is the internet, which you already seem to have. But you have to wait till your in 8th grade. But its good that your looking into this now, so by that time you know what to do, where to go, and how to use the materials. Any questions just IM me or e-mail me, go to my page, and theres the info. Good Luck!

Oh... and DON'T listen to that girl above me, shes probably a mental r****d herself. 80% of home schooled kids make it into a careered world. You know the percentage of kids that got high school don't even get half of that, at least in the US. SO yeah, HOME SCHOOL all the way. Besides, in todays world, high school drama kills education. Besides, relationships shouldn't even be in your mind at this point. Get educated first I say. Then when you get a job, life, money, the works, look for someone.

  2. If you can't tell us what state you are in, try this site:

    www.hslda.org

Look up the home schooling laws for your state by going to home school laws and then clicking the state where you live.  Without knowing what state you are in, we can't help you very much at all.  The amount of money you spend depends on the curriculum or style of home schooling you choose.  What you have to choose may or may not be dictated by the state.  Some states require your parents to have degrees.  Some may ask that you use an umbrella program.  We can explain more of that once you know what the legal boundaries for you are in your state.  If you do not want to tell us what state, you might simply explain the laws and then we can help you from there.

  3. It depends on what state you are in.

Its changes between states, they each have their own laws about it and such.

But I am homeschooled in IL, and I love it. I don't do it on the computer though, I use textbooks and things like that.

Here is a good site to check out, it tells you alot about it.

I guess it dpends on personal prefrence.

Actually who ever you are below this post, most homeschooled kids do SOO much better then kids in public school.

And I was homeschool since kindergarden! And I am also a grade ahead and am doing college classes (and i'm 14!) So if you think that homeschoolers are mentally retarded, then how come I am a grade ahead?

  4. People can spot a home schooled kid a mile away. They tend to lack social skills and stand out in a crowd of their peers( not in a good way). Part of public schooling is to teach young people how to interact in society, in the culture. We are gatherers by nature. Stop trying to change nature.

  5. First you have to talk to your parents.  Is this something they have the time to do and are they willing to do it. It's a very large commitment.  My kids do schoolwork about 3 hours a day.  The cost depends on what textbooks I have gotten for them for that year.  Although the costs can be kept down if you use books from the library.

Being bored like some of the posts have suggested means that the children and parents have not found things for the kids to do.  Mine do things like karate, guitar, bowling and other activites.  Make sure you have things (hobbies, classes for things like ceramics or foreign language.  You can go to those through the parks and rec dept in your city) you would like to pursue outside of the textbooks.  Also, there are many homeschooling groups that meet for activites, be sure you join with others to do things, and don't forget to stay in contact with your public schooled friends as well.  You will also make new friends if you make sure to join new activities. Also, volunteer in your community.  It's a great way to meet lots of new people and make a difference.

As far as the social issues mentioned by some of the other people on here, those issues depend on if you do the above things or not.  I fail to see how being around only your own age group can help you learn how to get along in society.  If you work with all age groups as homeschoolers do then you learn how it works in the real world.  Have you ever seen a job where everyone is the same age?

My son is 16.  He has basically finished his homeschooling.  He began taking some college classes at 15 and he now works full time helping the family and paying for his own 2007  car.  He has a nice savings started and he has friends.  He says and I quote: "if anything warped me socially it was school".  So, think about it and talk to a variety of homeschoolers before you take the leap.  If you decide to do it good luck!

  6. Well, you could be homeschooled through k-12 or connections academy but you need to have parent supervision. In 5th grade, you don't really home school yourself - at least not ideally.

The cost and requirements will vary from state to state.

If you and your parents are considering homeschooling, take a look at homeschooling.com as well as the k12 virtual academy and see if there are ones in your state. You may also be able to home school through your local public schools if your parents are going to be teaching you. I would recommend you really sit down with your parents and talk to them about wanting to do this. It is really rewarding - but don't be confused and think it is less work. Home schooled kids still learn and have all the work, if not more than what is given to the public and private school kids.

Typically you will have actual school for about the same amount you would at public school, but it is different. It is hard to say how much time you would spend specifically because it really depends on the program or curriculum that you use.

If you have any questions along the way - feel free to email me with any questions.

My son is home schooled and in grade 2. It's a bit of work to get started, but I was home schooled when I was younger and looking back it was a very rewarding experience!

  7. First off, you need to speak to your parents about this rather than asking on-line.  However, I'm looking into homeschooling my son who is in pre-school right now.  I've done the research and despite statistics that can be thrown from both sides, your reasons, or your parents, should be their own.  Mine are simple, I want my child to be a child.  He was doing well before starting pre-school.  Now I can't even get him to hold a pencil or crayon correctly.  In addition, he has homework already.  At four years old!!!  I know of a first grader that spends 4 hours each night doing homework.  Where's the childhood?  I don't buy in to the statement from his teacher that it "prepares them for homework in the future and builds good study habits."  He's four!!!  He was doing well on his own with our help, not that he's forced to do it he won't.  When we were "teaching" him, we would ask before bed what he did today.  He would start singing his ABC's, counting toys in the room, and so on.  When I pick him up after school now, I ask the same thing.  His response is usually "We played on the slide."  Great job teach!

As for the social comments...don't believe them.  There are plenty of "social" interactions that can be enjoyed.  You wouldn't be trapped in the house and locked in a room.  I'm sure there are several homeschool groups around that get together for all sorts of activities, there are several in my area.  One parent even has a bumper sticker that states "I homeschool but hardly at home".

Others comment that going to public school prepares you for real life.  How does sitting in a classroom with 20-30 people of YOUR age, prepare you for life?  Homeschooling would provide the opportunity for you and your parents to go visit all sorts of "real life" and interact with people older and younger than you, making you a well rounded individual.  You would get to experience "real life" first hand, rather than hearing it in a classroom, and interact with people outside of your age group.

I could keep going but I'll end it the same as I began, you need to speak to your parents.  If this is something that YOU want to do, you need to explain to them why.  You're old enough to know what you want.  However, don't just tell them "because".  State why you want to do it and what you think you could learn from it.  Keep in mind though, they're your parents.  If they say no, that's your opportunity to research it further and show that's it's something you want and need to do.

They send you a box and you complet the booklets take a test on the subjects and mail them off. Plus you grade it yourself!!!

    GOOD LUCK

  10. why the h**l would you WANT to be home schooled? seriously, i think you should stay in a school, esp so you dont become socially retarded or something. if you are having problems there with other kids, try to work them out. talk to a teacher or councelor. i knew someone who decided to be homeschooled, and she has some issues like with talking to guys and meeting new people. its really bad. keep in mind she decided to be homeschooled around 5th grade too.
