My fiance got kicked out of school today and he just wants to go and get his GED but I want to try to home school him. So how do I go about doing it and where do I start? Who do I have to talk to and get the supplies from and what not? I am 19 and have my high school diploma.

  1. Depending on where you live k12 may be able to help you. They will provide you with a computer. printer, books , and everything you need..my son graduated an online school already ( you can work at your own pace )

  2. homeschooling is maybe greater for ur education but not for ur social relationship. u will have not as much friend as when u have it in the normal school.

if it is only for a boy, i hope u will think it twice. ur bf had a DO while u have an excellent brain. and when u are just satisfy with the high school diploma, think what can u do abt the job later or when ur bf kick u away....

  3. Well, your story leaves me with wanting to say quite a bit about maturity and responsibility. But to answer your question, look up online schooling, usually you can get GED online or one year of high school online. Penn Foster is a site I am aware of.

One thing I must say is this is something he should be doing for himself not you doing it for him.  He isn't showing good husband material.

  4. Although I believe your heart is in the right place, this will not benefit your relationship.

If he is at least 18, which I hope he is, since you stated that you are 19, I would recommend he study, and test for the GED, and start college classes when ready.

There is no difference between a GED, or regular high school diploma for college admissions, or applying for student loans.

He can start college part-time, and go to work part-time, and that is what you should be doing as well, so both of you will have a shot at a better future, and prepare yourselves financially.

  5. Why do you think that just because you're 19 and have a high school diploma means that you can or even should "homeschool him"? Unless you are his legal guardian, which I doubt, you can not register him, can not give him a diploma or even sign his transcript through regular homeschooling.

I'm guessing he's roughly your age, right? If he's 18, he can sign himself up with any online program. http://www.k12.com may even be available free where you live. Frankly, there's nothing wrong with him getting his GED if he wants. If he's planning to go to college, he could even skip that step and just learn what he needs for the SATs.

  6. Ok, is this the person you ~really~ want to marry?? How about when he looses his job or cannot support the family?  Yikes. I would think about this situation carefully.

As to homeschooling... you cannot homeschool him as you are not his legal guardian.  It would be up to his parents to homeschool him for the rest of his education.  If he qualifies for the GED (each state has different requirements), it might be better than nothing, but remember that it still carries a stigma in some fields (i.e. military) and could limit opportunities for him in the future.
