  1. There really aren't any Pros for me at least....Get to do school on your own time, work more on things that interest you....

    The cons are endless....

    =)

  2. Pros- Socialization    Students have time to have friends of all ages, religions, nationalities, etc.

Cons-  Not getting to ride the school bus at 6:30 AM 5 days a week.

  3. when a people is  what to be and school right now  get is last grade this summer.

  4. Pros:

The pros are that you can cater to your child's learning style and your child can learn at his/her own pace.  You can choose the information and values you want to teach, and you don’t have to pressure your child to move forward faster than he/she is capable and you don’t have to hold your child back when he/she is ready to move on.

You also have more flexibility because you don't have to deal with school schedule.  Your child can have more free time to pursue interests and activities, and do fun projects and field trips.

Homeschooled students tend to be more confident because they are not exposed to negative peer pressure or bullying from other kids.  They spend more time in the real world and are better prepared for life after graduation.

They also excel academically and are recruited by colleges and employers.

    Cons:

Homeschooling requires more time for the parent because they are responsible for child's education, and can't blame problems on the school.  In addition, parents have to seek out materials and activities for their child that are more readily available in public schools.

In addition, families may have to deal with outside criticism, and government regulation.

  5. It depends on when you start home-schooling and how long you do it.

If your kid is already used to being in a public or private school and does not desperately want to leave that particular school, homeschooling is probably not a good idea at all.

On the other hand, if you have a kid that is about to enter school for the first time next year and you are willing to put forth the effort to homeschool him/her, the pros definitely outway the cons. Of the people I know, on average those that were homeschooled early on have a much, much better work ethic than those that weren't. They also tend to have a much better understanding of the most fundamental elements of math and english and to be more interested in reading. They also tend to have better relationships with their parents and to be less overtly rebelious when they become teenagers and less likely to try to do things just to make themselves fit in. The two major cons are that they have to be extroverted by nature to develope much socially and they tend to have a much narrower perspective on the universe. Another downside is that after about fifth or sixth grade, most parents only understand or remember one subject well enough to really teach it, and most other resources stop being able to help that much either unless you have a particuliarly motivated (or brilliant) kid.

One other thing that can either be a pro or a con (depending on who you read) is that homeschooled kids tend to devolope a narrower scope of interests, but this usually means that they're more passionate about the interests they do have.

  6. Research this question in the resolved sections and you will find it is asked weekly. I don't mean to sound snide but seeing the same questions over and over gets dull.

  7. Pros - you child might actually learn something valuable.  He/She won't learn about how to get high drinking cold medicine (see CBSnews.com)

Cons - you have to do the work.

  8. You get to be the center of your childs universe and that can be a pro and a con.  But when I consider the alternatives I would rather be the center of their universe than some other child who does not necessarily share my values.  Read "Hold on to Your Kids" by Gordon Neufeld, it will help you make up your mind.

  9. One of the best thing I can say about homschooling is that I have heard that it is better for preparing you for college.  The wors thing that i can say about it is that you don't see your friends as often as you might want to.

  10. i was home schooled for 2 years and i went into a deep depression because i had no one around and i missed my friends. I also developed a fear of new places and things i don't think that homeschooling is the greatest option

  11. Pros- Togetherness,One on one-great ratio, personalized education, continuity of care, Freedom to learn at your own pace, polite well mannered children, no hassle vacations and assignments that you do not understand. Individualized reading lists and math levels. Good education. Less school supplies to purchase.

Cons- It is all up to you, less free time, Togetherness-and yes this is a pro also, No one else to blame for mistakes, Less sleeping in, More work and research for mom/dad. Costs a bit sometimes. No principal to call for problems-you are the principal.
