Ok this question is going to be kind of long but if anyone can help me I will definetly appreciate it.

Ok so I am finishing my sophomore year of high school on Florida Virtual School. I went to a public high school for my freshman year and started off my sophomore year there but about halfway through the year decided I wanted to be homeschooled.

So now I plan on finishing this year and continuing my junior year being homeschooled. Then I will go back to a public high school for my senior year.

Do I need to take my ACT/SAT this year? If so how do I sign up to take them?

Will my credits automatically transfer from Florida Virtual School to my public high school?

Do I need to make transcriprts or anything like that for these two years or will they just all show up after my senior year?

How does it work when I apply to colleges?

What all do I need to accomplish for my junior year?

Thank you all so much!

  1. You don't actually HAVE to have the SAT or the ACT, but some scholarships are based on that. You need to go to your states board of education website to find out the details for your states requirement for graduation. They will also either have an actual curriculum there or a set of guidelines telling you what you need to be working on this year. When you apply to college you bring with you your diploma given to you by whoever is homeschooling you. It's a good idea to have a transcript as most schools require it with a diploma.

You don't need to transfer anything back to your school. The diploma comes straight from the person homeschooling you.

Really, the best way to answer all your questions is your state department of education. If you have a university in mind that you want to attend then you should contact them for their criteria for entrance.

  2. FLVS will automatically transfer, just make sure you take classes that are pre requisites for what you will take in Senior year, and also what is required for graduation. You need to take standardized tests in 11th. Some county school districts will not accept homeschool credits for transfer or pre requisites, and some will let you take a test. Ask your school district. Also, if you must you can contact HSLDA as a last resort if your schoo wont cooperate.

  3. Hi,

The ACT/SAT is given through  the College Board. You can go on their website, see all the dates and sign up. They also have helpful links for the time line in both your junior and senior years. Some universities do not require the ACT so I'd gather your top 5 universities and read the admission requirements.

The Florida Virtual School should take care of all your coursework but I'd double check with the transcript person or counselor. It's a good idea to be your own advocate. Definitely do not assume things will be take care of on their own. Hopefully that helps a bit. Good luck!
