  1. A library card.

    Art supplies.

    Pencils and paper.

    Netflix membership.

  2. If they are sending you the material, you should only need basics like pencils, pens, paper, maybe a calculator for high school. If you have to send in your work by mail, keep a supply of stamps and pre-addressed envelopes ready to go. I found that if I had to search for these things every week, I was less likely to get things sent in a timely manor.

    Good luck!

  3. You will want to go with the basics at first and then determin what you need from there.

Basics---Pencils ( #2 and red correction),pens, paper (loose leaf, spiral), pencil sharpner, color pencils, color markers, crayons, sharpies, index cards and either 3 ring binders or folders.

As you don't state a grade or age for the student you might or might not need the pens (except for the parents use).

Extras might be ----household items for science and art projects, a microscope and slides, tweezers, construction paper, watercolor paper, paints (finger, watercolor, oil) brushes, good printer ( I prefer lexmark printer/copier/scanner), dry erase markers, chalk (easy to make yourself), chalkboard (also easy to create yourself), maps (globe, wall & table type).

Renewable items: Humor (can be found in the strangest places), Patience ( walk away, breathe deep and return to what you were doing when both parties are calm), Smiles (achieved when student fully understands lesson).

The above lists are only partial as what each student needs vary from grade to grade and also depends on if you use a Cover School or go it yourself (some cover schools send you a good deal of stuff while others send you the absolute minimum).

    Good luck

  4. I love my dry erase boards! A small one for sitting with the child and showing things (like letter formations, or math problems) and a big one for writing lots of stuff, like English copywork or math work.

  6. Even though we were homeschooled, my mom always made sure we went shopping for 'back to school' supplies.  We were allowed to pick out the pencils, pens, and notebooks of our choice.  When we were younger we also received a new box of crayons, glue sticks, construction paper, and stickers for a job well done.  Obviously as we got older the fun things like crayons turned into calculators, rulers, graph, paper, and book covers.  I always found it helpful to have a piece of scratch paper with me for every subject that I could jot thought down on, do practice work, and simply doodle to keep my sanity so we always had plenty of loose notebook paper on hand.

The most important thing is to stay organized!  Everything has a place and everything in its place.  Get some sort of file folder or storage cart with drawers to keep things separated.  Have a different colored notebook for every subject with a matching folder to keep completed work in.

Then add pens, pencils, erasers (pink pearls are the best!), a calculator, a dictionary and thesaurus, A good internet connection is helpful for research, a library card, highlighters, and a good snack!  I prefer apples and granola bars when I study.  And chia tea.  And a classical music CD.  I would start with Mozart symphonies. =)  Good luck with your first year, I'm sure it will be fabulous!
