  1. Call up your local school board and ask.

  2. Technically you are supposed to notify them and that's it, other than provide studies in core subjects.

  3. Contrary to the above response, you don't have to "ask" to homeschool - you have every right to homeschool.

Texas laws about homeschooling are very lenient.  Here is a copy of Texas homeschool laws:

When my parents took me out of public school to begin homeschooling, they simply sent a letter to the school informing the school of their decision (just so they wouldn't wonder where I went, I guess).  They also let the local truancy officer know that I was homeschooling so that I would not be picked up for truancy if I was out and around town during school hours.  I know we are also somehow registered as a private homeschool with our state (IL) but I don't think that's even really necessary.

You can check out www.hslda.org for more info.

After that you need to read up on approaches to homeschooling, and look at curriculum.

  5. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has information on how to legally homeschool in your state, along with information on how to get started in homeschooling.  The link is below:

The following site has a sample "Letter of Assurance and Intent to Homeschool":
