Homeshooling index cards?

Question

what would you do with index cards in homeschooling for 8th grade besides flashcards and reaserch and common stuff.

please give me an idea for each group you have an idea for

these are my subjects

algebra

life science

cooking

american history

american government

health

french

ancient history

english

reading

bible

Flashcards, research, and common stuff is generally what index cards are used for.  You can make timelines, vocab notebooks, mini book reports, historical figures bios...there's tons of stuff that you can do with them.

Here's a site you might like: http://homeschoolwithindexcards.com/  The woman who runs this is a homeschool mom who does just about everything with index cards.  If there's something that can be done with index cards, it'll be on this site.  If it's not there, it hasn't yet been thought of :-)

If you're interested in a subject or project, learning comes easily and naturally.  You learn because you want to.

Flash cards are great for rote memorization, but you retain the information until the test, then forget it, which isn't true learning.

Why do you want to memorize things?

I get the feeling you're waiting for me to answer this one. You know, you can apply all the answers I gave to the parent with younger homeschoolers to your grade level. You just need to replace the subject matter with your more advanced material.

French-- french word on front, english on back

Cooking-- cooking term on front, meaning on back

Bible- Verse number on front, the words on back

ancient history- events on front, places/dates/etc. on back

Goggle Earth is great for Many Items above.

Algebra is algebra not much you can get on a card.  

cooking good for receipts

life science use the outdoors

health trip to the pharmacy, American red cross CPR class

American government get involved with this years election by volunteering for a candidate he chooses not the one you do.

what are you doing for social connection for your kid?  

Bible is a great book of stories that he can use to better other people live. The book of Solomon put that on index cards as a way to live your life.

Darling, what is your obsession with index cards? This is becoming a daily phenomena.  Why don't you try thinking maps instead?  There are several of those with many applications.

For heavens sake what is it with these index cards?

You can use them to write on, doodle on, make a card box with addresses, and phone numbers, write topic notes on them for speeches. or use them as a book mark.
