Homesick of Switzerland?

I have quite complicated living issues. I was born in Colombia of a Colombian-Italian dentist father who immigrated to Texas in the 90's when there was a shortage of dentists and a Swiss mother who lives in Switzerland. So until the age of 7 I lived in Colombia, at 7 I moved to Texas, then at 11 I moved to Switzerland, at 16 I moved back to the U.S. and now I'm in an American university (I'll be 19 next week) but I am extremely homesick. For nearly the past 3yrs living in the U.S. I have not been able to adapt and love this country, I really cannot picture myself living here the rest of my life, and when I go back to Switzerland on vacation to visit my mom I just feel so at home and love every single thing about it. My boyfriend of 2yrs can't understand how is it that I cannot like living in America and that I feel homesick, I really really want to move back to Switzerland but how to explain this to my loved ones here? They can't relate to what I'm feeling.

  1. I  have a situation that is as difficult, being American, living in the Czech Republic and then Thailand. After returning to the US, I had a difficult time adjusting.

If you really feel the need to Europe, you should do it. This is a very important time in your life, and you need to be comfortable and happy to focus your energy on your studies.

It is difficult to make people understand. But you must be honest about your feelings and insist that you have given things a great deal of thought and it is not just your mood for the day.

Continue to be consistent and hopefully you will gain the support to make the correct decision.

I wish you lots of luck!

  2. Hey!

I really understand you! I'm an excheange student from Switzerland, I live in California since August 2007 and I'll going back in July 08! I really love to be here, but I just miss Switzerland! All is much smaller there, and I just feel home!

I can imagine that for you it must be pretty hard, because you have all your friends her in the U.S! But if you really feel of living there, then you should do it now! You are still young, as longer you wait, the harder it will be to leave the U.S!

Just tell your friends exactly what you wrote here! You can even take them with you to visit Switzerland! If they are really your friends, they'll understand...!

  3. I completely understand.  Suggestion:  Take your beloveds to a trip to Switzerland..they will immediately understand why you're homesick and they want to spend the rest of their lives with you in this beautiful lovely little country.
