I need help with these problems. Please show me how to work these problems.

Complete each statement to find the first five terms of the sequence given by a n = 7n The n after "a" is small in my book. I put a space between them so it didnt look like an.

The numbers after the "a" in each term are small in my book.

first term a1 = 7(1) = 7 I think this is an example.

second term a2 = 7(2) = ___

third term a3 = ___ = ___

fourth term a4 = ___ = ___

fifth term a5 = ___ = ___

Use the nth term to list the first five terms of each sequence. Show all your work.

Once again the numbers ater "a" are small.

a n = 10n

a n = 1/2n

a n = n+8

a n = 14 - n

a n = 4n - 3

a n = 3n+1

Im really have no clue what to do. My teacher didnt even explain it. Its 8th grade Algebra. Thanks.

  1. It's an arithmetic sequence; you can use the explicit formula.

    the formula would be:

    an = a1 + (n-1) d

    an is the nth term of the sequence

    a1 is the first term of the sequence (in this case it would be 7)

    d is the common difference (in this case it would be 7 as well, because the difference between each term is 7)

    so say you want to find the 3rd term of that sequence; you could use: a3 = 7 + (3-1) 7

    a3 = 7 + (2)7

    a3 = 7 + 14

    a3 = 21

    therefore; the 3rd term of the sequence would be 21.

    Now you can find the 100th term of this sequence using that formula.

    I hope that helps :)
