  1. I believe that mass is the amount of matter in an object where as weight is the amount of pressure pushing down on something. This means that weight can change depending on where you are but mass can't.  


  2. Mass is also  visual.  Weight is not.

  3. Weight is dependent on the gravational force present.

    Hence, you weigh less on the Moon than you do on Earth.

    However, you mass is exactly the same on the Moon and on Earth.

    So, you can see the mass is more useful for measuring matter than weight.

The weight of an object is a measure of the gravitational force on the object: it depends on the mass of the object and on the gravity affecting it.  (Hence, an astronaut weighs less on the moon than on earth.)  The mass, on the other hand, is an intrinsic property of the object, which doesn't depend on gravity.

  5. Mass is a constant.  It is the same regardless of where it is measured.

    Weight is a variable....it depends upon the force of gravity.  You would weigh less on the moon (lesser graviational pull) than on the Earth (greater gravitational pull).
