I'm taking Pre-AP algerbra 2, and we have a review sheet due this week.

I was wondering about how to simplify radicals with exponents:

ex:

/=square root sign:)

(/7)2

/81

___

/a2 [2 is an exponent.]

/c5 [5 is an exponent]

/a 3 [3 is an exponent]

or a website that might help.

thnx; greatly appreciated

  1. I'll use "sqrt(" to indicate a square root.

    sqrt(81)=9

    sqrt(a^2)=a

sqrt(c^5)=c^(5/2) [look where the numbers came from: the 5 is the exponent and the 2 is from the "sqrt("]

sqrt(a^3)=a^(3/2) [same as above...the 3 is the exponent and the 2 is the root]

  2. /81=9 (because 9 times 9 = 81)
