Explain the diffrence in meaning between the expression 4 3/4 and 4 (3/4).

  1. 4 3/4 is simply saying 4 AND 3/4, or in otherwords, 19/4.

    4 (3/4) looks like a multiplication problem (that's usually what the parenthesis indicate), so it would be 4 TIMES 3/4, which is 3.
