How does Homo Erectus compare to the earlier hominids in terms of their cranial capacity, cranial morphology and cultural behavior, such as stone tools etc.

  1. H. ergaster/erectus had a larger cranial capacity, a projecting bony nose (for water retention), a supraorbital torus, human like limb proportions, a large head and longer life history traits.

    H. ergaster kept the primative Olduwan technology for about 600,000 years before developing Acheulian technology (mode 2) about 1.4 mya.

    H. ergaster had less sexual dimorphism than some of the previous hominins, suggesting it may have had multi-male multi-female groups.
