    Homogeneous:  same composition throughout the sample.  Either an element, a compound or a thoroughly mixed mixture, like a solution.

    Heterogeneous:  varied composition throughout the sample.  Applies to uneven mixtures.

    Physical change:  changes only the appearance, shape or size of the substance, without changing what the substance is made of.

    Chemical change:  changes the actual identity of the substance...elements into compounds, compounds into elements and the like.
