Slovakian duo of Michaela Honcova with Zuzana Luknarova flabbergasted third seeded Hungarians Timea Babos with Reka-Luca Jani in the first round of the Slovak Open 2011.
On Tuesday the 15th of November 2011 at the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia, on indoor hard courts the two crews battled racquets. After simply sixty four minutes the home-team thrashed the third seeded
Hungarian duo in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5.
Commencing the first round of the match was Babos/ Jani and both the squads traded in breaks for the first two games and placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. The crew’s held their respective serves and the score tied at
two games each at the end of the fourth game.
However, in the fifth game the third seeded Hungarian couple double faulted and endorsed a crucial break to their adversaries. Nonetheless, the unseeded Slovakian pair not only capitalized on breakpoint but also held their serve
and reeled off two successive games to take a mini lead of 4-2 at the end of the sixth game. Honcova/ Luknarova managed to repeat the feat and in doing so; they clogged the opening set to go one up in the match.
The second set was inaugurated by the third seeded duo and again the players once more traded in breaks in the initial two games. In the following two games the crews expertly handled their respective serves and tied the score
at two games each by the end of the fourth game.
During the fifth and the sixth game the two squads once more bartered in breaks and the score had shifted to three games each at the end of the sixth game. Subsequently, in the next four games the players matched an eye for an
eye and the score tied for the last time at five games each at the end of the tenth game.
As the crowd cheered for the home team it boosted their performance along with their morale. At this point the match could’ve gone either way but during the eleventh game Babos/ Jani double faulted on their second serve and endorsed
a pivotal game to their adversaries. Mean while, Honcova/ Luknarova availed the breakpoint chance and tactfully managed to hold their serve to seal their victory of the match.
The unseeded Slovakian couple were extremely excited as they were able to reserve a spot in the second round of the tournament where they will be facing wildcard entrants and compatriots Lucia Butkovská with Anna Schmiedlová.
