Question:

Honda 250 nighthawk best starter for me?

Well, with the gas prices, I finally decided that it' time to get the motorcycle permit and take the Motorcycle Safety Course. The good news is, i live 5 minutes from a dealership that offers the safety course, the bad news is I have always driven automatic vehicles and never a motorcycle. I am a cautious minded person, want good MPG, not great speed. I read numerous reviews on here and have seen some practical advice about which bikes to start with. Simply asking, Is the 250 nighthawk the way to go for a guy like me? I believe you have to learn on this bike at the course unless you bring your own. I thought about scoots but they are pricey and i need to go 24 miles each way with it once skilled enough. 6-0 200 lbs, again not looking to zoom, just get to my destinations and enjoy the ride. Please advise!

  1. I would go with a genuine Honda starter

the aftermarket starters you buy from a discount parts supplier are trouble

  2. yes good starter bike.

  3. Its a good bike but if you're that big the 250 will not be enough for you. That small engine will be working pretty hard to move you around and you won't have much muscle left over for acceleration when you have to merge into traffic. The bike class will give you 250s to train on. Do that first, then shop around for something in the 400-600 range. The extra weight of the bike will be nothing for somebody your size.

  4. if you don't care for flash great choice as far as never driving a 5 speed it doesn't matter because a 5 speed car isn't the same. you'll be learning a new skill in riding already so the shifting will come pretty easy, don't sweat it.
